Description:
The University of Illinois at Chicago, Facilities Management department is seeking to fill a Safety Environmental Compliance Associate position. Responsible for managing the occupational health and safety training requirements per OSHA regulations utilizing UIC's learning management system. Perform safety audits, manage PPE guidelines and inventory.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Coordinating and managing the Facilities Management staff in training and development in compliance with OSHA and University Occupational Health and Safety programs. The individual will utilize the Learning Management Software to administer, conduct, facilitate and record the training. Back up and provide training content that includes but is not limited to attendance, course content, evaluation sheets and certificates. Participate in course evaluations, review, and development.
- Review and update current PPE guides. Perform field evaluations of tasks and audit PPE usage on designated tasks per trade, transportation work, housekeeping, and grounds. Maintain and manage PPE inventory with PPMD/accounting group as procured and designed within their system. Maintain records of PPE in terms of distribution and stock where applicable.
- Perform walk-throughs on work orders and projects being completed by trades, transportation, housekeeping, and grounds. Provide oral and written feedback on observations as well as communications and coaching for irregularities in the field.
- Assist in respiratory protection evaluation and fit testing. Identify respiratory protection needs utilizing assistance from Industrial Hygiene, Biological Safety and Hospital Safety.
- Communicate and coordinate with Lab Safety, Hazardous Waste Management, Industrial Hygiene, Biological Safety, Radiation Safety and Hospital Safety as it pertains to interactions with facility management.
- Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
Minimum Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, environmental engineering, environmental health, safety engineering, industrial hygiene, or a closely related field.
- Two (2) years (24 months) of professional work experience in a safety or compliance related field.
- Based on position requirements, additional education, training, and/or work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position, may be required.
NOTE: Master's Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year (12 months) of work experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
OSHA 500 Training Certification. Management of safety related programs limited to but not including lockout tagout, working at heights, confined space, PPE, chemical handling, and storage. Experience with adult learners and familiar with video content training and delivering PowerPoint training.
