The Lead Estimator will work with senior managers, estimators, schedulers and other construction professionals across Kiewit’s divisions, as well as with other construction and engineering firms.District OverviewKiewit’s Southern California District is one of Kiewit’s leading infrastructure districts specializing in heavy civil projects that include earth moving, water/wastewater, transportation, roadways, and power projects. Most of our work is concentrated in the Southern California region.LocationThis position is located at our district office in Santa Fe Springs, CAResponsibilitiesMonitor and supervise indirect project estimates and bid information to ensure accurate and timely information.Preparation of indirect project estimates to ensure all factors are properly considered, priced, and included in the estimate. Will review estimates prepared by other estimating groups or JV partners to determine the completeness of data used, and procedures, and will aid in resolving differences in bid items.Assist in the collection and analysis of man-hour and cost information from projects for the use of historical data.Support the estimate project schedule and determine requirements for staffing, equipment, and temporary facilities.Reviews the Owner’s plans and specifications to develop a comprehensive understanding of the project, which will aid in developing a plan for construction and will ultimately serve as the basis for the estimate.Reviews all bid and contract documents and reviews Home Office Legal Department opinions.Will conduct a site investigation prior to forming a plan of operations to acquaint him/herself with any problems or conditions of an unusual nature that may be present.Will utilize engineer techniques and procedures in conducting the investigation and adhere to standard company policy and procedures in obtaining the complete information required or necessary.Will perform design work as required by the nature of the project that is beyond the scope of experience of the Engineer-Estimator and must be capable of handling major technical problems encountered during bid preparation.Must keep current on various trends and developments, such as new equipment, methods, and procedures that are developing in the industry and in his/her specialized area (i.e., mechanical, electrical, etc.).Prepares special engineering studies or reports required by the unusual nature of some bid items or conditions. Consults with Owners on various problems discovered during bid preparation, design, rates, schedules, etc.QualificationsUndergraduate or graduate degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil Engineering, or construction management, OR extensive and related work experience leading to a thorough understanding of the knowledge, skills and abilities described above.10+ years' related experience5+ years' of construction field experience, 2+ years' of estimating and precon experience is preferredExceptionally strong attention to detail.Excellent negotiation skills.Strong communication, interpersonal, leadership, and team-building skills.Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products (e.g., Excel, Work, Outlook, PowerPoint).#LI-EA1Other Requirements:• Regular, reliable attendance• Work productively and meet deadlines timely• Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment• Perform work safely and effectively.
