This position in Dr. Edward Chouchani’s Lab will assist postdocs and graduate students in performing scientific research aimed at understanding the mechanistic basis of metabolic disease. The research technician will collaborate with other scientists and team members, working independently as well as part of multi-disciplinary research teams to design and execute experiments for ongoing research projects.

Duties include:

  1. Working with laboratory mice, conducting basic molecular and cell biology, and implementing mass spectrometry for proteomic analysis.
  2. Isolation and analysis of DNA, RNA, and protein from cultured cells and animal tissues.
  3. Mass spectrometry sample preparation and data analysis.
  4. Primary cell culture and mouse handling and experimentation.

There will be extensive opportunities for intellectual engagement with data analysis, experimental planning, oral and written scientific communication, as well as exposure to cutting-edge experimental methods; the position will be a good stepping stone for those interested in a biomedical research career.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree with scientific specialty is required (or to be obtained in December 2024).
  • Previous experience working in a scientific research setting required.
  • Previous experience with mass spectrometry is required.
  • Knowledge of information and techniques related to biology, chemistry, or biophysics is preferred.
  • Must be a self-motivated and independent worker with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be strong critical thinker with attention to detail and thorough in completing, troubleshooting, and communicating the results of work tasks.
  • At least two year commitment is required.
