Beck & Hofer is a general contractor looking for self-motivated individuals who desire to be part of a safety-oriented company with family values. We work in and around Sioux Falls and require little to no travel. We are adding to our erection crew in pre-engineered metal buildings.

Position Overview: We are seeking an experienced Steel Lead to join our team. As a Steel Lead, you will play a crucial role in assisting the foreman to oversee the erection of pre-engineered metal buildings. You’ll collaborate with foremen and construction crews to ensure successful project execution.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in pre-planning of work for steel crew, oversee safety procedures, quality of workmanship, and morale of the crew.
  • Conduct steel erection within federal, state, and local environmental rules and regulations.
  • Maintain a safe and clean worksite with employees and subcontractors, ensuring compliance with OSHA standards and company safety policies.
  • Report to supervisor for orders of tools, equipment, and materials to be delivered at specific times to conform to work schedules. Read and interpret blueprints, structural drawings, and specifications.
  • Direct unloading of steel deliveries and inspect and properly stage delivered material.
  • Provide direction to crew members, ensuring work quality and productivity.
  • Collaborate with other trades (electrical, plumbing, etc.) as needed.
  • Conduct regular inspections to identify and address any issues promptly.
  • Maintain accurate records of work progress and materials used.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 5 or more years related experience and/or training.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to manage a crew effectively.
  • Knowledge of steel erection techniques and safety practices.
  • Certified, trained, and authorized to operate construction equipment.
  • Trained and qualified in rigging and signal person operations.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Bilingual abilities are a plus, but not required.
