Summary

The Process Engineer is responsible for optimizing and improving the efficiency of manufacturing processes. The Process Engineer will ensure the smooth functioning of production lines, develop new techniques, modify existing designs, coordinate process improvement projects, and resolve concerns in product interpretation.


The Process Engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams to implement lean manufacturing principles, conduct process audits, and develop standard operating procedures.


Responsibilities

  • Develops, optimizes, and improves manufacturing processes to enhance productivity, quality, and safety.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to reduce costs, minimize waste, and increase efficiency.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth integration of new processes, technologies and equipment.
  • Perform process capability studies, statistical analysis and data-driven decision-making to achieve operational excellence and meet production targets.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental and regulatory requirements in all process engineering activities.
  • Conduct detailed analysis and evaluation of existing manufacturing processes, identifying areas for improvement and recommending appropriate solutions.
  • Design and implement process optimization strategies to enhance efficiency, reduce cycle time and improve product quality.
  • Collaborate with Production and Quality to develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions.
  • Monitor and analyze process performance metrics, such as cycle time, yield and scrap rate and develop strategies to meet or exceed targets.
  • Identify and implement process control measures, including statistical process control (SPC) techniques, to ensure consistent quality and reduce process variation.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting expertise to resolve process-related issues and improve overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
  • Lead process validation activities, including protocol development, execution, and documentation, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams to drive root cause analysis, corrective actions, and preventive measures.
  • Provide training and guidance to production teams on new processes, procedures, and equipment to ensure successful implementation and operation.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in process engineering technologies, methodologies and best practices.


Qualifications: Required Skills, Education, and Experience

  • BS in Engineering
  • 2+ years of experience as a process engineer in a manufacturing environment with Coating lines (hotmelt, silicone, adhesives) web handling and/or converting equipment.
  • Proficient in Office, Adobe Acrobat, Visio, Project, and process simulation software and computer-aided design (CAD) tools.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.


Strongly Preferred

  1. Experience with process improvement tools and methodologies such as Kaizen, 5S and Value Stream Mapping.
  2. Master’s degree in process engineering or a related field.
  3. Experience with process automation and control systems.
  4. Knowledge of automation and control systems, such as SCADA and PLC.
  5. Solid understanding of quality management systems, such as SQF standards.



Travel

Up to 25% travel between Owatonna and St Paul, MN
