POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Branch Programs Director or Executive in charge, the Aquatics Director is responsible for the development, implementation, supervision, administration and evaluation of the aquatics department. Duties include staff supervision, program oversight and development. The Aquatics Director ensures the aquatics experience is safe, fun, and enjoyable for members and program participants. Key deliverables for this position include safety and risk management of our aquatic environment, high-quality drowning prevention, and swim lesson programming.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Implement new engagement activities, incentive programs, and special events.
  2. Ensure quality swim instruction, aquatic programs, and member satisfaction.
  3. Efficiently market the department with goals to increase program participation.
  4. Teach aquatic exercise, swim instruction or lifeguard as needed.
  5. Ensure pool facilities and equipment are safe, clean and operating correctly.
  6. Assume key team leader responsibilities including budget development and meeting goals of the organization.
  7. Supervise and develop staff in accordance with the organization’s policies, mission and applicable laws, including interviewing, training, planning and assigning work, appraising performance, and addressing and resolving issues.
  8. Promptly respond to member and participant needs and manage complaints in a courteous, patient manner using active listening and problem-solving techniques.
  9. Accurately maintain participant records and other documentation in accordance with department requirements. Compile program statistics while monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of and participation in program areas.
  10. Create and maintain positive relationships with staff, members, participants, and children while providing motivational support and guidance.
  11. Coordinate use of aquatic facilities for program activities and events.
  12. Uphold the core values of the YMCA when working with people within the YMCA facilities and community.
  13. Participate and recruit staff, members, vendors, and program participants in financial development efforts such as the Annual Community Support Campaign.
  14. Support the YMCA’s mission and center operations as needed.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management or related field.
  • Proven experience in managing aquatics facilities.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to oversee a team.
  • Excellent customer service and guest relations skills.
  • Proficiency in cash handling and financial management.
  • Previous experience in events management is a plus.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $37,000.00 - $44,000.00 per year
