S.M. Lawrence is seeking to fill the Safety Coordinator opening in our Corinth, MS office. As the Safety Coordinator you will work closely with the Safety Director to support the development, implementation, and monitoring of safety policies, procedures, and programs across all company locations. This position is responsible for assisting with safety training, ensuring regulatory compliance, conducting safety audits, and providing safety guidance to employees in both the service and construction divisions. The Safety Coordinator will play a key role in fostering a culture of safety within the company and improving overall safety performance.
Compensation aspects of the role are dependent upon knowledge, skills and experience.
The home office for this opening will be in our Corinth, MS branch office.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist in the development and updating of safety policies, procedures, and programs to ensure compliance with OSHA and other regulatory standards.
  • Help monitor and enforce safety programs across all company locations (service and construction divisions).
  • Coordinate and deliver safety training programs in collaboration with the Safety Director.
  • Develop and present customized safety topics tailored to the specific needs of the company, reducing the need for 3rd party training providers.
  • Maintain training records and ensure compliance with mandated training requirements, including AVETTA and ISNetworld.
  • Assist in organizing and scheduling safety meetings and toolbox talks.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits.
  • Participate in incident investigations.
  • Track corrective actions and follow up to ensure hazards are addressed promptly.
  • Assist with the investigation of workplace incidents, including injuries, near-misses, and property damage.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations and other applicable safety laws and standards.
  • Work closely with the Safety Director, supervisors, and project managers to ensure safety protocols are integrated into daily operations.
  • Assist in promoting employee engagement in safety initiatives and programs.
  • Help develop and maintain emergency action plans for all company locations.
  • Perform other related duties or special projects, as assigned.
Education, Training, Licenses and/or Certifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or related field preferred
  • 2 years of experience in safety coordination or a similar role preferred
  • Nationally recognized safety certification (e.g., ASP, GSP, CHST, COSS, COSM) highly desirable
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and experience with compliance management is preferred
  • Experience with AVETTA, ISNetworld, or similar contractor management systems is a plus
  • OSHA certifications are a plus
  • First Aid/CPR Certification is a plus
  • Hazardous Materials Handling Certification is a plus
  • Emergency Response Training is a plus
Additional Requirements
  • Complies with and promotes company Safety Policy
  • Ability to safely traverse construction worksites and maintain a safety poster while conducting audits and investigations.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively across multiple locations.
  • Must wear safety required PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) while on worksites.
  • Strong understanding of safety regulations and compliance.
  • Ability to analyze data and generate meaningful reports.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Ability to climb up to 10-foot ladder as needed.
  • Ability to pass a physical ability test.
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds at times.
  • Ability to pass a full background screening and drug screening.
  • Flexibility to travel to offices and worksites as needed for incidents, accidents, trainings, investigations, etc.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
