Position Summary:

Working with the nation’s largest health care database, Blue Health Intelligence (BHI) provides analytic solutions for Blue Cross Blue Shield plans across the country. BHI’s data science team designs state of the art solutions through advanced methodologies, models, and measures. Advanced methodologies are a key differentiator for BHI’s product and analytical solutions. The incumbent will contribute to the design and development of robust analytics with practical business impact, working closely with senior analysts in a cooperative team environment.

As a Senior Data Scientist, this role will be responsible for the development of BHI’s advanced technologies particularly to do with statistical score modeling, model development, score/model deployment, large scale database analysis and statistical algorithms. The Sr Data Scientist is responsible for participating in the full array of predictive modeling activities at BHI. Conduct quantitative analyses, author study reports, and create innovative analytic approaches. The position will also serve as a content expert statistical modeling technique applied to large claims databases. Accountable for the execution of advanced analytic models, and will be responsible for technical review of research, synthesis, and dissemination of results to enable innovative products.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Development of advanced analytic methodologies applied to healthcare claims data, and other integrated data sources, which drives analytic innovation and market leadership in healthcare analytics.
  2. Manages large and complex analytical projects from data exploration, model building, performance evaluation and testing. Manages the tasks and quality of work of other individuals on the project.
  3. Lead technical design, and implementation of score models and algorithms.
  4. Apply data mining techniques to large claims databases to identify refined approaches to business issues.
  5. Explores, examines, and interprets large volumes of data in various forms.
  6. Leads analyses of structured and unstructured data to solve moderately complex business problems.
  7. Use strong programming skills to explore, examine and interpret large volumes of data in various forms.
  8. Analysis, design, development, test, troubleshooting and documentation of complex data systems that may involve one or more of the following: predictive score models, feature extraction, data-driven analysis, machine learning, decision making and related utilities.
  9. Analyze data using statistical software packages such as SAS, R, SPSS, Stata and Atlas.
  10. Assess the performance of previous models and determine the methodology and process for re-calibration.
  11. Lead the design and execute experiments to test the applicability and validity of these models.
  12. Create metrics to assess performance of various actionable approaches.
  13. Support the development of advanced research models.
  14. Direct data gathering, cleaning, analytic transformation processes, and analysis tasks conducted to support model development.
  15. Collaborate with the data team to improve existing database and suggest new data sources.
  16. Work with stakeholders to identify other research needs and priorities.
  17. Identify process improvement opportunities within internal processes and through communications, programs and other activities as needed.
  18. Collaborate with the developers to implement improvements.
  19. Complete written documentation and reports of results. This will take the form of authoring business reports, presentations, internal white papers and statistical system documentation.
  20. Build consensus with internal and external staff on analytic modeling approaches, develop ideas for new modeling projects and programs to strengthen partner relationships and encourage BHI participation.
  21. Provides guidance in the resolution of complex data issues utilizing available resources and expertise in support of BHI analytic objectives.
  22. Ability to influence constituents and manage potential conflicts.
  23. Ensure integrity, accuracy and timelines of analysis. Develop documents that explain methodologies.

Job Requirements:

  1. Master's Degree in Math, Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science, Machine Language, Quantitative Methods or a related field.
  2. 7+ years of progressively responsible experience in conducting advanced analytic modeling for large claims databases with real-world application, preferably in a healthcare setting.
  3. Application of advanced statistical, machine learning, and/or data mining techniques (i.e. classification, clustering, association mining, forecasting), to real-world problems with massive healthcare claims data.
  4. Deep knowledge of advanced analytics tools and languages to analyze large data sets from multiple data sources.
  5. Demonstrates proficiency in all areas of mathematical analysis methods, machine learning, statistical analyses, and predictive modeling and advanced in-depth specialization in some areas.
  6. Strong experience using modeling tools such as Python, SPSS, R, Matlab.
  7. Demonstrated experience in the following: Uni and Multivariate Data Analysis, Application of predictive models, market segmentation and cluster analyses, time-series analysis, advanced regression modeling.
  8. Ability to effectively communicate results of statistical models to broad audience, and convert findings to actionable applications.
  9. Requires demonstrated analytic skills and creativity to quickly integrate information and develop business proposals for new initiatives.
  10. Must have strong problem-solving skills, creativity, and strong attention to detail.
  11. Is familiar with SOC 2 compliance and its impact on company policies and processes.
  12. Understands importance of adhering to SOC 2 requirements and maintains an effort to do so.
