Position Description
UCLA Extension is considered one of the top programs of its kind, offering to more than 35,000 students per year approximately 4,500 classes and non-degree certificate programs to meet the professional development, continuing education, and personal enrichment needs of the full spectrum of nontraditional students as well as companies and organizations throughout and beyond the Los Angeles region.

Course / Program Description
This course emphasizes the managerial process in the international environment and provides an operational assessment of the fundamental issues involved in the management of international and multinational corporations. Instruction focuses on analyzing case studies related to upper and middle management issues, although the lessons apply to all levels and functions of international operations. Topics include matching foreign investment strategies with local conditions, managing export/import operations, trade and direct investment, local sourcing versus importing components, licensing and international joint venturing, designing organizational structures that match changing international conditions, managing a global structure, managing political risks, acquisitions, and integrating new businesses and dealing with international ethical considerations.

Job Description
A teaching position is now available for an International Business Management course. Qualified applicants possessing current knowledge and teaching experience in the following topic area(s) are encouraged to apply:

  1. Management of international and multinational corporations
  2. Foreign investment strategies
  3. Import/export operations
  4. Local sourcing vs. importing
  5. Joint ventures
  6. Organizational structure
  7. International ethics

*This course is delivered IN PERSON. Candidates must be available to teach in person in Los Angeles.*

Instructor Duties:
  1. Develop and/or update course syllabus in consultation with the UCLA Extension Program Director as assigned using approved syllabus template
  2. Prepare and deliver course materials and learning assessments in assigned format (in-person, online or hybrid)
  3. Utilize the Canvas Learning Management System as the course support platform for in-person courses and as the delivery platform for online and hybrid courses
  4. Communicate teaching objectives and specific learning outcomes to students and clearly outline the grading policies for the course
  5. Evaluate student achievement of specific learning outcomes and assign grades
  6. Post final student grades to the transcript system in a timely manner no later than 2 weeks after the last date of course meeting
  7. Respond to student questions and learning needs in a timely manner
  8. Communicate with Program Director, Program Representatives and Online Course Managers in a timely manner
  9. Stay current regarding the professional body of knowledge in the field of practice
  10. Participate in required orientations and instructor training programs
  11. Complete required administrative tasks in a timely manner including: completing all hiring paperwork; submitting updated quarterly syllabus; posting bio and photo on the UCLA Extension website; signing quarterly contract; ordering required texts; communicating AV and classroom needs.
  12. Employ culturally competent teaching methodologies in the classroom inclusive of both domestic and international student populations
  13. Respond to student inquiries about final grades and consult with Program Director as needed
  14. Allow students to review their final exams/papers for up to 13 months following the last class session
  15. Use subject-matter expertise to impart knowledge to students and leverage additional resources appropriately to enhance the curriculum (i.e. make arrangements for guest speakers, etc.)
  16. Design interactive and motivational classroom activities to fully engage participants and to reinforce student learning
  17. Update materials periodically, and regularly monitor course evaluations in order to make adjustments and improvements to the curriculum

Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
  1. Advanced degree from an accredited institution and five years of experience in the field, or ten years of experience without advanced degree.
  2. Current knowledge of and demonstrated proficiency in subject area
  3. Must be committed to the highest level of academic standards and integrity
  4. Highly effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to convey conceptual and complex ideas and information
  5. Highly effective interpersonal skills
  6. Proficiency in (or willingness to learn) the use of instructional technology and online teaching tools
  7. Current participation in professional associations
  8. Comfort in dealing with international professionals and students

Preferred Qualifications
  1. Experience designing/revising curriculum and measuring student performance
  2. College-level teaching experience (or the corporate equivalent)
