Summary Of Position
Responsible for managing and growing advertising sales revenue and business in assigned territory &/or categories for the Advertising team.
Essential Duties & Functions
- Negotiate and close new business with clients and agencies within key revenue categories as assigned.
- Develop marketing strategies for accounts that include integrated print, online, digital marketing services and events.
- Customize highly effective advertising campaigns and presentations to meet client’s needs and budget constraints.
- Strategize with clients and internal resources on positioning, premiums and merchandising to ensure media buys maximize the clients’ return on investment.
- Coordinate inquiries, media kits, marketing data and presentations, sales material requests, rate questions, etc. for clients and agencies.
- Retain existing accounts within territory and upsell them into unique offerings or special sections and initiatives.
- Monitor competitive media and identify opportunities to increase market share.
- Conduct needs assessment interviews with clients and prospects to develop customer-driven solutions.
- Analyze sales performance to goal and forecast anticipated media sales for upcoming periods.
- Compose letters and proposals as required; negotiate frequency media buys and contracts where appropriate.
- Communicate effectively to provide outstanding customer service to internal and external customers.
- Participate in business associations within industry category or territory.
- On a regular basis, exercise administrative judgment and assume responsibility for decisions, consequences and results having an impact on people, costs and/or quality of service within functional area.
- Partner with Production department and client solutions team.
- Partner with Finance for ad booking, corrections, credit and billing.
Essential Job Knowledge & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, advertising, business or related preferred.
- 4 to 8 years’ experience of advertising sales preferably with an emphasis on local retail sales.
- Knowledge of and ability to sell various digital media services including SEM, SEO, social media marketing, reputation management and website offerings.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the full sales life cycle from the client, buyer and agency position.
- Proven experience developing integrated advertising programs required.
- Excellent negotiation and customer service skills a must to close new business and retain existing account basis.
- Strong knowledge of NY newspaper and media market a must to track competition and leverage Newsday Media Group’s core product.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to present research and proposals clearly in person, via the phone and e-mail.
- Ability to sell multiple products and generate new business.
- Aptitude to meet or exceed revenue goals.
- Capability to develop relationships with clients in person, on the phone and via e-mail.
- Strong follow through and relationship building skills.
- Strong problem solving and decision-making skills and the ability to interpret and utilize research to develop and support solution-based programs for customers.
- Knowledge of Salesforce a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Employees are generally required to work out in the field visiting clients and sourcing new business five (5) days per week.
- Required to be onsite at Newsday for key weekly meetings or as needed.
- Must be willing to travel up to 75% of the time in the designated territory.
- Ability to drive to client locations and other related site visits.
- Driver’s license in good standing required.
- The person in this position frequently communicates with clients, must be able to accurately exchange information, and facilitate presentations & sales pitches to clients and vendors in person as well as over phone/zoom and email.
Salary
The salary for this position is $51,000.00 plus commission.
