Job Description

The Director of External Relations is a key leadership position reporting to the Board of Directors of the St. Bernard’s High School. This position will be responsible for providing strategic direction and execution of marketing and communications to new and prospective families, stewarding and cultivating the school’s donor-base, and generating innovative, mission-aligned initiatives to propel St. Bernard’s to grow and deepen relationships with philanthropic sources including Alumni, Families, Corporations, Foundations, and other prospects for charitable support of our independent, Catholic high school.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE DIRECTOR OF EXTERNAL RELATIONS

  1. Vision and Leadership: Through the strategic planning process, you will have the chance to shape and communicate a compelling vision for the school’s future. You will work hand-in-hand with the Board, cultivating relationships and executing each element of the annual and long-term strategic development plan.
  2. Enrollment Growth and Retention: You will be responsible for managing the school's admission process from inquiry to integration into the school, overseeing all admission events, and working closely with faculty and staff to promote the school in order to attract new families and retain current ones.
  3. Communication and Engagement: Working with the Board and subject matter experts, you will develop an extensive calendar of communications that effectively promote the school on its website, on social media, in the press, and at events and meetings.
  4. Fundraising, Alumni and Community Partnerships: As Director, you will partner with the Board and other stakeholders to actively seek funding opportunities and cultivate partnerships with local businesses, organizations, alumni, and parents and families of alumni.
  5. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: By promoting diversity and inclusivity within the school community, you will continue our school’s commitment to an environment that embraces all students and helps them to thrive.
  6. Administrative Team Management: As circumstances require, you will participate in the recruitment, hiring, and management of several non-faculty, administrative employees.

Job Requirements

  • Five or more years’ experience in school administration, such as serving as a Director of Development or Enrollment Management.
  • Knowledge of fundraising strategies and principles and a track record of achieving fundraising goals.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and proofreading skills.
  • Experience in partnering with internal and Board leadership on donor engagement, grant applications, and fundraising activities.
  • Strong knowledge of budgeting and financial management.
  • Strong leadership abilities, including the capacity to inspire and motivate.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be a highly motivated self-starter.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented.
  • Demonstrate a deep personal faith and commitment to the values and teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • A collaborative leadership style that involves faculty, staff, parents, and the community in the decision-making processes.
