Summary
Under general supervision, is responsible for maintaining dockets; files petitions; updates court minutes; prepares court correspondence; prepares legal documents; coordinates court appearances; takes stipulations; administers oaths; performs data entry; answers questions; creates case jackets; maintains files; makes certified copies; and performs related duties as required.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintains hearing, jury and non-jury trial daily dockets
  • Files original petitions from the District Attorney's Office
  • Performs data entry to update the court minutes in the computer
  • Prepares court correspondence
  • Prepares and issues legal documents which may include court orders, judgments, sentences, warrants, subpoenas, requests for psychiatric examinations
  • Coordinates the appearance of parties for cases scheduled on the daily docket
  • Takes stipulations in open court
  • Administers oaths and takes proofs for parties involved in individual cases
  • Performs data entry and computer research of individual case, court date and dismissal or appeal information
  • Answers questions in person and by telephone regarding court procedures
  • Creates and maintains juvenile case jackets
  • Maintains case files
  • Makes certified copies of legal documents
  • Performs other duties as required
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School or General Education Development (GED) certificate, and three (3) years judicial system experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Good knowledge of the Texas Family Code; good knowledge of basic legal terminology; good knowledge of alphabetic and numeric file maintenance
  • Skill in understanding and applying State Judicial Code
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; ability to accurately enter data; ability to perform basic mathematical calculations; ability to operate personal computer, typewriter and basic office equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, County employees, Elected/Appointed Officials, attorneys and the general public
  • Acts in the name of the District Clerk and shall perform all official acts as may be lawfully done and performed by such Clerk in person, pursuant to Section 51.303 of the Texas Government Code
  • Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation by the District Clerk
  • Must clear a pre-employment physical and a pre-employment drug screen test
  • Must be bondable
  • May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek

  • Constantly working in indoor conditions
  • Frequently moves items weighing up to 15-20 pounds

  • Frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information
