Within UAA, the Community Engagement and Leadership Education (CELE) unit provides students with opportunities to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to contribute to thriving communities. Building authentic community and campus partnerships drive our work. CELE programs are centered around the areas of community-engaged learning, democratic engagement, leadership education, pK-12 student success and place-based initiatives.
CELE has an outstanding opportunity for a Program Manager for Community Partnerships.
The Program Manager for Community Partnerships leads the day-to-day implementation of our academic community-engaged courses program and has significant responsibility for building community-based organization and campus relationships that support the overall mission of the CELE Center. The range of tasks in this position will include: direct advising with students enrolled in community-engaged courses, outreach to community-based partner organizations, work with faculty/instructors to support community-engaged pedagogy in their classrooms, and management of online systems and web content to enable and support community-based learning at the University of Washington.
Under the supervision of the Director of Community Engagement, the Program Manager for Community Partnerships will have the following responsibilities:
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Community-Engaged Course Program Management (55%)

  • Counsel students on choices for community-based experiences, helping them connect academic coursework and career aspirations with community organizations/projects.
  • Manage student registration process for community-engaged learning.
  • Support student reflection and integrated learning by participating in scholarship/fellowship reading and interview committees as requested.
  • Maintain interpersonal relationships with community-engaged students and CBO partner alumni in support of larger CELE Center constituent engagement effort.
  • Develop in person and on-line tools to support student learning in community-engaged courses, working closely with faculty, instructors, and teaching assistants on implementation.
  • Manage reflection on community-based experiences and evaluation of both tools and experience.
  • Work with student staff team to monitor and maintain quality of community-engaged courses; identify and develop supports to leverage pedagogical improvements to support student learning.
  • Coordinate special events related to service-learning, community engagement, and other community-based learning opportunities for students, including workshops, panels, site visits, or other programs.
    Partnership Development and Management (20%)
  • Maintain existing partnerships between the University and local non-profit agencies and government offices via site visits, phone calls, and electronic communication.
  • Identify and develop new partnerships with community-based organizations in a manner that is consistent with CELE Center values and that balances student learning outcomes with community benefit.
  • Provide logistical support for community partner organizations, students, and faculty in relation to community-engaged academic courses, including primary responsibility for student and community partner communication efforts and technical support in our in-house CRM system (called EXPO).
  • Oversee and facilitate quarterly classroom presentations and pre-service workshop sessions for all CELE Center supported community engaged courses
  • Evaluate new and ongoing community sites/partnerships as suitable for student placements through community-engaged courses.
    System Management & Improvement (10%)
  • Lead continual improvement process for existing community-engaged courses assessment plan; revise student and community partner assessment tools as needed to measure desired community engagement goals.
  • Support systems connection and integration around constituent management across CELE programs
  • Produce reports on student involvement to satisfy institutional reporting requests/requirements)
  • Monitor and maintain quality of community-engaged courses; identify and develop supports to leverage pedagogical improvements.
    Organizational Culture and Participation (15%)
  • Project management for hourly undergraduate and/or graduate student staff; provide strategic and logistical support for hourly student staff members as they grow their skills and capacities as team members.
  • Play a key role in developing and maintaining an internal organization culture consistent with CELE Center values and strategic priorities.
  • Participate in CELE Center, UAA, and other campus workgroups or committees as requested.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Three years of professional experience
    Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and appropriately (through written word and public speaking) with varied stakeholders.

  • Creative problem solving skills, ability to balance a variety of time sensitive duties, and flexibility as priorities shift.
  • Strong organizational skills, creativity, demonstrated attention to detail, ability to work under pressure, and manage deadlines.
  • Exhibit an appreciation of, sensitivity to, and a respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty and staff of many social, economic, cultural, ideological, racial and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Understanding of educational inequities and the racial and socioeconomic disparities that exist in our communities and how those translate to higher education settings.
    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Place-based relationships and network in the Seattle non-profit community.
  • Professional experience managing volunteers/interns in a complex non-profit or government organization.
  • Experience working with college students, community service programs, and/or service-learning pedagogy.
