Warehouse Supervisor – South San Francisco

Our services include climate-controlled storage, private viewing galleries, local transportation, international shipping, installation, packing, archival photography, digital inventory management, and more.

UOVO seeks a full-time Warehouse Supervisor to join its dynamic and growing team. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, experience working in art storage and collection management, and will be comfortable installing, packing, and moving a wide range of art objects. The Warehouse Supervisor will report to the Operations Manager.

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage and mentor a team of highly skilled warehouse and crating art handlers, including freelance and temporary workers, in daily activities and art handling procedures as it pertains to the Internal Warehouse and the Crate Shop. This includes ensuring that all assignments are completed in a timely fashion, approving paid time off, completing annual performance reviews, giving corrective feedback, and developing staff training curriculum.
  • Ensure that all art is stored safely and efficiently to UOVO’s warehousing standards and that inventory data is accurate and updated in real time.
  • Plan and oversee onsite installations and de-installations in viewing rooms and workspaces while maintaining art handling best practices, strict inventory control, and providing client assistance when needed.
  • In conjunction with the Operations Manager, allocate art handling staff to assist on all internal labor needs so that work is executed to meet deadlines, ensuring safety of property and positive client experience.
  • Oversee and audit all material ordering for packing and crating shops, reconciling all costs to Accounts Payable and adhering to both budgets and space allocation.
  • Ensure standardized best practices for packing and work in conjunction with other Operations team members to ensure all UOVO handlers are well-trained and mentored in methods and materials and the highest levels of communication and professionalism, both internally and externally.
  • Scope, estimate, schedule, and manage the fabrication of all crates in South San Francisco, ensuring that the highest level of client satisfaction, safety, and quality of work are maintained.
  • In conjunction with other key stakeholders, work with other UOVO locations to streamline product offerings and establish best practices as it pertains to the output from various crate shops.
  • Adhere to and actively enforce all OSHA safety requirements for all Internal Operational areas, ensure all internal machinery functions properly and make repairs when necessary.
  • Liaise between the Accounts Management team and Operations team, problem-solving and providing timely feedback to prepare for upcoming work and meet deadlines.
  • Assist in establishing goals and objectives in line with UOVO’s performance Management program, providing quarterly feedback and completing annual performance reviews for all direct reports and their teams.
  • Create a positive and engaging work environment by mentoring, coaching, and motivating direct team members.
  • In coordination with the Operations Manager and Director of Operations, recruit for open positions ensuring a fair, transparent, and inclusive process.
  • Other tasks as assigned by Manager.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Team Player who can work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Comfortable in a results-driven workplace.
  • 5-7 years of logistical and art handling experience.
  • 3-4 years of people management experience.
  • Experience interacting with art professionals and demonstrated leadership ability.
  • Extensive knowledge of art handling best practices, including packing, framing, wrapping, installations, and crating.
  • Experience with a variety of fine art mediums and packing materials.
  • Excellent communication and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to learn UOVO’s software systems.
  • Ability to quickly prioritize and allocate resources.
  • Ability to push and pull 150 pounds on a dolly or cart, as well as 50 pounds without mechanical aid.
  • Ability to carry 40 pounds of varying size and shape up to a distance of 90 feet.
  • Ability to stand, walk, squat, bend, kneel, crouch, twist, and reach overhead.
  • Ability to be exposed to outside weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow.
  • Ability to safely operate a forklift.
  • Familiarity with the use of hand trucks, pallet jacks, pry lever bars, dollies, and other warehouse equipment.

This in-person position requires on-site presence at UOVO's South San Francisco facility five days a week with occasional requests to work nights and on weekends.
