Automation Engineer – Allen-Bradley PLC and Cognex Vision Systems
North Haven, CT- Onsite.
12-24 Months Contracts
Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Automation Engineer with expertise in Allen-Bradley (Rockwell) PLC programming, Cognex Vision Systems, and experience with Installation Qualification (IQ), Operational Qualification (OQ), and Performance Qualification (PQ) processes in a medical device manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and validating automation systems to ensure efficient and compliant operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, program, and troubleshoot Allen-Bradley (Rockwell) PLCs for automation systems used in manufacturing processes.
- Integrate and configure Cognex Vision Systems for quality inspection, defect detection, and process control in a regulated environment.
- Design, develop, and execute IQ, OQ, PQ protocols for automation systems and equipment to ensure compliance with FDA, ISO, and other regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Quality, Production, and Engineering, to define system requirements and specifications.
- Perform risk assessments, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and Hazard Analysis to ensure safe and efficient system operations.
- Provide technical support for the installation, calibration, and validation of automated equipment.
- Maintain and update automation documentation, including software design specifications, validation protocols, and user manuals.
- Troubleshoot and resolve automation system issues to minimize downtime and ensure smooth production flow.
- Train and mentor production and maintenance personnel on automated systems and ensure proper operation and maintenance.
- Stay current with new automation technologies, tools, and best practices relevant to medical device manufacturing.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience working with Allen-Bradley (Rockwell) PLC programming, integration, and troubleshooting.
- Proven experience with Cognex Vision Systems, including setup, programming, and validation.
- Strong understanding of IQ, OQ, PQ processes and regulatory requirements for the medical device industry.
- Hands-on experience with GMP, FDA, and ISO standards related to medical device manufacturing.
- Proficiency in using automation software tools such as RSLogix 5000, Studio 5000, FactoryTalk, and VisionPro.
- Experience with HMI/SCADA systems and data acquisition software.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with other automation systems and equipment commonly used in the medical device industry.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and process optimization.
- Experience in project management and the ability to lead automation projects from concept to implementation.
