Electrical Power Systems Studies Engineer - Ashburn, VA or any City near a major airport!
This challenging role will involve partnering with engineering and design staff to develop power studies for projects focused on critical power systems for new data centers and expansions in the hyperscale/colocation markets. The candidate will have in-depth knowledge of Electrical Power Distribution System design and installation, working closely with organizational leadership to complete Power Systems Studies.
Responsibilities:
- Autonomous in day-to-day work with high-level instruction on projects or assignments
- Execute and lead design teams and coordinate activities of other personnel as needed
- Mentor engineers and assist with training and development
- Lead Power Systems Studies for mission critical data center projects
- Independently perform Power System Studies
- Evaluate equipment capabilities, ratings, and conditions
- Lead proposal development, training/mentoring, and development of standards
- Conduct Power Systems Studies and produce reports including breaker settings tables, TCC’s, and arc flash labels
- Analyze current and future system load to ensure power delivery without overloading components
- Evaluate potential fault conditions and ensure equipment ratings are not exceeded
- Study the settings of protective devices to ensure they coordinate correctly
- Conduct studies to determine potential arc flash hazards and recommend safety practices
- Evaluate the power system's ability to maintain synchronism after disturbances
- Develop proposals including project scope, schedule, and budget
- Manage project design team time effectively
- Identify potential project scope changes and develop strategies to minimize impact
- QA/QC peer reviews for projects
- Optimize workflow and deliverables by developing templates and standards
Requirements:
- 8-15 years of Electrical Engineering experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or similar
- Licensed PE/EIT a plus
- Advanced knowledge of electrical topologies related to mission critical facilities
- Experience designing electrical power systems for complex data centers
- Experience with protective devices and their functions
- Understanding of various power system equipment ratings and conditions
- Subject Matter Expert of industry and safety standards related to power systems
- Understanding of connecting new generation or loads to existing systems
- Proficiency in power system simulation software (ETAP, PSS/E, SKM, Easy Power)
- MS Office Suite proficiency
- Skilled at reviewing design drawings and equipment submittals
- Conduct code analysis to meet requirements
- Client-facing experience as primary point of contact on projects
- Ability to work independently and prioritize effectively
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written
- Proactive, resourceful, and a multitasker
- Exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail
- Experience in the Military is a plus
- Minimal Travel: 10-20%
