Highly successful, global organization looking to appoint a new General Counsel ideally from CPG, logistics, manufacturing or other related business with a sizeable workforce.

Job Description

As General Counsel you will sit on and work closely with the National Board, responsibilities include:

• Providing legal advice and counsel to all legal matters for the US business: contracts, corporate governance, employment matters, regulatory compliance, M&A, IP, Litigation and managing outside counsel.
  
  
• Confidently provide legal advice on all US business matters, providing opinion and guidance on legal, regulatory and policy matters.
  
  
• Anticipating and identifying legal issues, providing Counsel to the Senior Leadership Team and Board, in the US and internationally.
  
  
• Contract review - managing the contract review team, rolling up sleeves and reviewing contracts as needed: commercial agreements, employment contracts, customer and vendor agreements.
  
  
• Selecting and managing Outside Counsel. Managing the annual legal department budget, tracking outside counsel spend.
  
  
• Advising the Board and leadership team on litigation and regulatory matters.
  
  
• Maintaining the organizations corporate books and records in line with regulatory requirements.
  
  
• Working closely with HR, providing employment law advice and counsel and wage & hour guidance.
  
  
• Legal and contract team of 10 - responsible for hiring, managing and retaining the legal department.

The Successful Applicant

Demonstrable skills required for the General Counsel include:

• Juris Doctor from a U.S. law school
• 7 years+ relevant In-House experience, some of which in a leadership capacity (preferably as GC)
• Collaborative approach
• Strong communicator, able to clearly and confidently provide legal counsel at speed and sometimes under pressure
• Build and manage relationships with multiple stakeholders including the CEO, COO, CFO and wider Board
