San Diego Youth ServicesJOB ANNOUNCEMENTAccountant ISan Diego Youth Services seeks an Accountant I in the Fiscal department to be based in the Administration building. This is a full time & non-exempt position reporting to the Accounting Manager. San Diego Youth Services: Who we are San Diego Youth Services has helped improve the lives of more than 780,000 homeless, runaway and vulnerable youth since its beginning in 1970. We provide safe places to live and long-term solutions through shelter, foster homes, community centers and housing to more than 28,000 youth every year at 100+ community and school locations. Through prevention, early intervention and treatment, we also help youth before they need higher levels of care or become homeless.We aim to:Meet the basic needs of youth. In addition to a range of safe and stable housing options, we offer support to help youth develop the independent living skills necessary to become self-sufficient and keep off the streets.Promote overall health and well-being. Early intervention and care for the whole child are critical. We provide a broad continuum of services to help youth overcome trauma and challenges that put them at risk, including case management, counseling, mental health treatment and educational support and resources.SDYS has a staff of approximately 250 employees and 80 volunteers working across San Diego County and an annual budget of approximately $24 million. You can learn more about us at OF THE POSITIONOverseeing Accounts Payable Functions, making sure all bills are paid in an efficient and timely manner.Essential functions include:Follow GAAP and governmental accounting standards when perform accounts payable.Perform weekly accounts payable cycle from data entry to check run for both organizations.Ensure that invoices processed are accurate, valid, allocated properly following agency’s cost allocation plans.Keep current with changes in fiscal policy & procedures, list of accounts, and cost allocation plans. Apply changes to relevant proceduresFollow internal protocol and track invoice due dates, ensure timely vendor payment.Maintain effective communication with vendors and program employees to resolve invoice and payment issues. Answer questions related to vendor invoice, payment, and accounts payable.Credit card reconciliation and posting.Generate reports in accounting software as requested.Maintain and setup vendor accounts.Maintain Vendor W-9 forms on file per law requirement.File annual 1099 forms in Accounting Software accurately and send to individual payee and IRS.Assist accounting manager with month-end close tasks including accounts payable reconciliation, prepaids, fixed assets, and intercompany transactions.Provide support to program staff on check request processing.Operate and maintain office equipment, such as computers, copy machine, and postage meter.Provide backup in the fiscal department during absence of any fiscal staff member.ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Prepare and post journal entries for GL adjustmentsAssist with coding of expense.Maintain vendor contract, lease agreements.Provide support to the Fiscal department and other departments when needs arise.ANNUAL FINANCIAL AUDIT AND PROGRAM AUDITS:Assist with Accounts Payable items on the annual audit schedule, such as preparation of Accounts Payable confirmations, schedules, gathering Accounts Payable supporting document, etc.Answer questions regarding the vendor invoice, payment status, and other Accounts Payable requests from the auditor.Support team member with Agency and program audits as needed.OTHER RELATED DUTIES:Maintain data collection and contract compliance of records.Maintain all files relevant to job responsibilities .Maintain various fiscal support records as assigned.Maintain updated procedures for all tasks in job description.Maintain a working knowledge of MIS equipment.PREFERRED PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONSBachelor’s degree in accounting preferred with at least two years of experience in accounting.Detail oriented and organized.Comfortable with figures and calculations.Experience at non-profit social service organizations is desired.Must have and be willing to use own (properly insured) car.Ability to communicate well.Experienced using computers, including spreadsheet, computerized accounting software and word processing applications.Must be able to work with and represent a culturally and ethnically diverse community.SDYS EXPECTATIONSAdhere to and uphold the rigorous standards of SDYS as mandated by its mission, purpose, guiding principles and standards of quality.Maintain confidentiality and privacy standards of service partner protected health information and other applicable information and material in accordance to agency and center policies, and applicable regulations and laws including HIPAA.Welcome and support SDYS volunteers and assist them in accomplishing their services whenever applicable.Effectively communicate with people from diverse backgrounds and experiences.Receive and give supportive feedback to foster equity and inclusion in working relationships.Recognize, nurture, and learn from strengths in co-workers.Maintain warm, welcoming and safe work environments.Possess flexibility to accomplish job responsibilities in several work environments, whether it be from home, on the road , or in an office.Salary Range : $28-29/hourTo apply, please send resume and cover letter through job posting on SDYS website.SDYS offers a comprehensive benefits package to full time employees that includes generous PTO, personal holidays, health, vision, dental, life insurance, parental leave and a 403(b)-retirement plan with matching contribution.
