POSITION: Mechanical/Static Equipment Engineer
(Potentially Transfers to field From Engineering Team Resident in Contractor's Office)
GENERAL PURPOSE:
The mechanical/equipment engineer is a key member of owner's engineering management team. Will support, oversee and ensure robust and timely performance of EPC firm's mechanical/equipment design deliverables for assigned project. Must ensure EPC's static equipment design and deliverables meet applicable industry and project standards. Must have extensive EPC experience in static equipment design, finite element analysis, user design specifications, HTRI design, Ceasar and other state of the art mechanical/equipment design tools. Extensive experience with EPC firm's piping design & deliverables is also desired.
Provides a high level of expertise in project related engineering and design skills for all aspects of pressure vessels and piping systems including reactors, heat exchangers, boilers, heavy-walled vessels, and piping hydraulics, sizing, loading, supports, stress and expansion in order to effectively support the technical needs of packaged facilities. Must have proven track record meeting project execution objectives, regulatory limits, and company expectations, while adhering to applicable engineering standards.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The principal function of the Mechanical/Equipment Engineer is to provide mechanical equipment engineering and design expertise and know-how at state-of-the-art levels regarding pressure vessels and piping systems so as to successfully complete the capital investment program consistent with Company objectives and technical requirements during engineering/design, procurement/fabrication, construction and pre-commissioning of assigned Contract Package.
- Responsible for advising the Engineering Manager, Construction Manager and Project Manager of deviations from mechanical equipment and piping standards, specifications, drawings, etc.
- Provide input for and drive resolution of non-conforming equipment design and engineering deliverables at all stages of the project
- Ensure plant equipment & facilities will meet all specified requirements in accordance with Company's published requirements and the project's design and business goals
- Provide input and support to the project's equipment quality program to ensure that technical quality and integrity of pressure vessel and piping system designs, fabrication/procurement installations and pre-commissioning activities for their assigned contract package meet project Execution plan objectives and specifications as well as Company needs and requirements and are properly interpreted and implemented during engineering design, procurement/fabrication, construction and pre-commissioning.
- Serve as the primary source of technical expertise for Mechanical /Equipment Engineering (Fixed Equipment and/or Piping Systems).
- Support and drive contractor performance during engineering/design, procurement /fabrication, field installation and pre-commissioning to meet project goals
- Support the adoption, and application of Company procedures for technical reviews, equipment and materials of construction selection, quality, safety, and operability checks and standards for engineering design to be incorporated into contractual requirements as Detailed Design specifications and drawings.
- Adopt, maintain and apply company mechanical/equipment (including Piping) engineering requirements consistent with Company engineering procedures and standards, and to provide interpretation of these for project teams during engineering/design, procurement/fabrication, construction and pre-commissioning.
- Provide expertise to ensure effective monitoring and appraisal (quality assurance) of contractor performance to ensure compliance with contractual requirements.
- Maintain and communicate to the Engineering Manager and Project Manager, mechanical/equipment and piping technical requirements and information to allow the company to maintain designs and installations consistent with established standards and specifications.
- Comply with applicable Laws, Regulations and Company engineering procedures and standards.
- Maintain the highest level of engineering expertise (whether engineering office or field related) in this technical specialist area in order to carry out the initial capital investment program of the Company.
- Deal with mechanical/equipment and piping engineering issues in the field, solutions complexities, and difficulties throughout the span of the capital investment program in order to meet Company expectations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must have the ability to speak effectively before groups of associates.
- Strong organizational and computer skills
- Experienced with Process Safety Management (PSM) standards
- Extensive experience with equipment and piping engineering codes and standards including ASME, TEMA, and API.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as equipment safety standards, P&ID's, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Experienced with stage gated project process including all phases of FEL
- B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from accredited institution.
- Minimum 15 years of Mechanical/Equipment engineering experience in chemical or petrochem EPC engineering firms. At least 10 yrs working on projects > $350M.
- Strongly desire > 5 years on-site experience and/or field engineering experience, working for an Owner and/or embedded with Owner's project team on a large project.
- Extensive direct experience in static equipment design, finite element analysis, users design specifications, HTRI design, Ceasar and other state-of-the-art mechanical/equipment design tools.
- Extensive expertise in process equipment engineering for all aspects of pressure vessels and piping including reactors, heat exchangers, boilers & furnaces, heavy-walled vessels (> 2" thick) and clad vessels including different methods of bonding;
- This equipment experience must include regular shop oversight visits to ensure equipment fabrication meets Owner specifications and quality requirements.
- Large project experience to include working with large equipment & piping modules.
- Some global travel may be required.
