Admission Advisor
Hiring Range: $17.60 - $22.88

The Admission Advisor is the first point of contact in YC's holistic approach to student success. The Admissions Advisor plays a critical role in guiding prospective students through the new student checklist. This includes assisting with the application process, coordinating placement testing, managing transcript requests, advising on financial options, explaining residency requirements, providing preliminary career advising, and connecting students with the appropriate academic advisor. The Admissions Advisor ensures that each student receives personalized support and accurate information to make informed decisions about their educational journey. The Admission Advisor is also responsible for assisting Personal Interest and continuing students as they navigate registration and program progression.
- Assist students in person and online via student appointments, walk ins, and phone calls
- Maintain current accurate demographic data on student records and update records as needed
- Manage Admission, Advising and General Information phone lines as well as chatbot to assist prospective and current students virtually
- Keep detailed and accurate records of student interactions and progress through the admission process and follow up actions
-Manages a large caseload of new and transfer community college students
-Assists new, transfer, returning and personal interest students, in a holistic way, to move them through from perspective to enrolled students. Schedules and monitors completion of New Student Checklist
-Offer preliminary career advising services to help students identify their educational and career goals and connect them with relevant resources that align with their career aspirations
- Ensure students are connected with the correct academic advisor based on their academic interests
- Provide General Program information for all YC programs
-Work with personal interest and continuing students to navigate registration, and educating students on tools and resources
-Reviews and maintains students moving through New Student Checklist and registering for classes.
- Completes Outreach on a weekly basis to ensure applicants persist to registered students
-Teach students skills to help cultivate self-direction in order to persist toward goal achievement by coaching students navigating college systems (i.e. Degreeworks, YC Portal, Canvas, etc.) and facilitates access to campus or community resources.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of college admissions policies, procedures, and programs
-Collaborates with all areas of Yavapai College to support a positive, engaged student experience contributing to improved retention and graduation rates for Yavapai College students.
-General cashier duties, including tuition payments and miscellaneous purchases
- Participate in Student Outreach Activities and Student Development Events throughout the year
-Other duties as assigned
Minimum Expectations & Requirements
-Bachelor's degree or 4 years related experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job
-Ability to interact and effectively communicate with diverse employee and student populations
-Exceptional customer service skills, including written and communication skills
- Ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time
- Monthly Travel to other campuses during the year, more frequently during registration periods
-Experience with Microsoft Office
- Ability to prioritize and adhere to guidelines provided by director and utilize critical thinking skills to promote the best possible customer experience
-Ability to work independently, as well as within a team
-Strong interpersonal skills to interact with students, faculty, staff and community members
-Experience working in a fast paced, high volume environment
-Regular attendance is an essential job function as it demonstrates dependability towards the performance of job duties
Preferred Skills & Abilities
Experience with student information systems, preferably Banner & Salesforce
Work experience in a community college / higher education environment
