Job description
The Lead Machinist is responsible for setting up and operating both manual and computer numerical control (CNC) machines to perform precision machining operations. This role involves interpreting technical drawings and specifications, programming CNC machines, selecting and installing cutting tools and accessories, monitoring machine operations, and conducting quality inspections on finished products.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Set up and operate manual and CNC machines, such as lathes and milling machines, to perform machining operations.
Read and interpret complex blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical specifications to determine optimal machining processes and sequences.
Program CNC machines using programming languages such as Okuma and Fanuc.
Select, install, and maintain appropriate cutting tools, attachments, and accessories for various machining operations.
Monitor machine operations closely, make necessary adjustments, and troubleshoot any issues or malfunctions that arise.
Inspect finished products thoroughly for quality, accuracy, and conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, adhering to all safety protocols and guidelines.
Perform routine maintenance, adjustments, and minor repairs on lathes, .mills, and CNC machines and related equipment.
Collaborate with other team members, such as engineers and supervisors, to ensure efficient production processes.
Required Qualifications:
Proven experience as a machinist, operating both manual and CNC machines.
Proficiency in programming CNC machines using languages like Mazatrol and Fanuc.
Familiarity with CAD/CAM software, such as SolidWorks, for programming and design.
Excellent blueprint reading and interpretation skills.
Knowledge of various power tools, equipment, and machining processes.
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
Preferred Knowledge and Skills:
Experience with Fanuc, CAM programming, CAD, SolidWorks, Mazatrol, CNC lathes, CNC programming, and CNC milling machines
Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
Basic understanding of metallurgy and material properties.
