This position coordinates the implementation of the Department's programs and services related to prevention of community violence and associated risk factors for the new Office of Community Violence Intervention. This work area supports complex initiatives and a public health approach related to community violence intervention (CVI) and serves as the department’s expert to the implementation of CVI strategies and models to enhance community safety. This position will include the development, implementation, management, and evaluation of the community violence intervention grants. This consultant position will provide contract management, technical assistance, partner outreach, and internal coordination on CVI community and health equity strategies related to community violence prevention and associated risk factors.

Education

Possession of a master's degree in public health, health communication, health policy or a public health-related field such as nursing, epidemiology, health education, health economics, dietetics/nutrition management, genetics, or speech and audiology; a master's degree in social work; master's degree in counseling; master's degree in special education with specialization in blind/visual disabilities; or a master's degree in public or business administration with a health care concentration.


Experience

Four years of professional, post-master's experience as a consultant in a field of public health equivalent to a Public Health Consultant, including two years equivalent to a Public Health Consultant P11 or one year equivalent to a Public Health Consultant 12.


Position Location/Remote Office: The physical location of this position is 333 South Grand, Lansing, MI 48933. Based on operational needs and within established limits, remote work and alternate or hybrid work schedule requests for this position may be considered.


Selected candidates who have been approved to work remotely or a hybrid schedule must complete that work within Michigan. Candidates should confirm work location and schedule at the time of interview.


Employees will be provided computers to perform state work. Phones may also be provided for necessary communications. If working remotely, employees will be responsible for providing other components of a remote office at their own expense, including:

  • A secure work location that allows privacy and prevents distractions.
  • A high-speed internet connection of at least 25 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload.
  • Suitable lighting, furniture, and utilities.
