System Development Engineer, Strategic Risk Insights - Data and Engineering
The Strategic Risk Insights, Data and Engineering team is at the forefront of identifying and managing security risks for the protection of Amazon's business lines. We are looking for a talented Systems Development Engineer that is ready to take on a crucial role in building and maintaining the tools and technology solutions that will enable our team to leverage data and insights to drive security decisions.
We are seeking a Systems Development Engineer to develop innovative solutions that empower our teams to efficiently collect, transform, analyze, and act on data from disparate sources. These solutions will be critical in enabling data-driven approaches to risk mitigation and customer protection. Key job responsibilities
- Build and maintain integrated Risk Management (IRM) or Governance, Risk & Compliance (GRC) platforms using innovative technology solutions and support robust tech stack related to the Archer IRM instance for Amazon Stores. This may include developing custom integrations, data pipelines, reporting capabilities, and automation.
- Collaborate with security teams across Amazon to understand evolving business requirements and design solutions that maximize security and protect Amazon's business lines.
- Identify and solve complex architectural problems related to integrating the Archer IRM system with other Amazon data sources and applications. Work to reduce complexity and improve consistency between systems.
- Demonstrate the ability to effectively architect and communicate solutions to business challenges related to risk management, policy & compliance management, vendor risk/third party supply chain management, privacy management, regulatory change management, business continuity, crisis planning, and disaster recovery.
- Work autonomously to complete technical projects successfully, while collaborating with peers and manager as needed. Make appropriate trade-offs in your designs to balance customer requirements, resilience, performance, and cost.
- Ensure all solutions are thoroughly tested, maintainable, optimized, and generate positive feedback from internal customers. Proactively identify and mitigate risks at the product or service level.
- Improve engineering and operational processes for the Archer IRM system, and work to apply those improvements to partner teams leveraging the platform.
- Lead technical design reviews, participate in incident response, and guide teams on architectural trade-offs to improve the overall resilience, performance and security posture of the Archer IRM solution.
- Troubleshoot complex performance, reliability, or availability issues in the Archer IRM system and deliver innovative solutions to resolve root causes.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, Rust
- Experience with Linux/Unix
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines build processes
- 5+ years of experience designing, building, and maintaining complex enterprise software systems
- Experience in automating, deploying, and supporting large-scale infrastructure
- Demonstrated proficiency in identifying and solving complex architectural and integration challenges
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with distributed systems at scale
- Experience building and maintaining Integrated Risk Management (IRM) or Governance, Risk & Compliance (GRC) solutions, including exposure to platforms like Archer IRM, ServiceNow GRC, MetricStream, IBM OpenPages, or OneTrust
- Demonstrated understanding of risk management, policy & compliance management, vendor risk, business continuity, and other relevant GRC processes
- Experience working with Archer IRM custom integrations, data pipelines, reporting, and automation
- Familiarity with cloud technologies, APIs, and integration patterns
