Overview
The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), the nation’s largest small business advocacy organization, looks to hire a State Director to join its State Government Relations team in Colorado and Wyoming.
Responsibilities
The State Director (CO/WY) is responsible for influencing public policy at the state level and being the resource for small and independent businesses in your state(s). Principal action is to advocate and protect the interests of small business in the state legislature, with state agencies and the office of the Governor, resulting in an economic and regulatory climate in which small businesses can thrive and prosper, pro-small business initiatives are achieved, and anti-small business legislation is defeated.
Must communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; work outcomes must meet and/or exceed productivity and quality standards. Must be able to work as part of a cooperative team environment and independent of direct supervision; adhere to Company and Department policies and procedures. Manages and directs staff, including recruitment, selection, and development in support of organization goals and objectives. Leadership responsibilities include reinforcing key organizational messages to foster employee understanding of NFIB's mission and vision and exemplify core values. Performs other projects as needed.
Salary Range - $109,000- $118,000
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Communications, or related field or equivalent.
- Eight and one-half (8.5) years of relevant work experience in lobbying, in state legislature or association management. Understanding of general and state-specific legislative processes and issues.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and ability to learn and use various other NFIB programs and software for PAC compliance, Campaign Finance Reporting, Expense Reporting, Member Database, etc.
- Professional, energetic self-starter. Must possess excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, including public presentation skills for large groups. Must possess excellent written communication skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines, negotiate conflicts, take initiative, assume project responsibility, and prioritize work under pressure, as well as high level of judgment, flexibility and stress tolerance. Some travel required.
- Ability to travel throughout the state(s) frequently.
