Department Overview:

Oregon Health & Science University is a nationally prominent research university and Oregon's only public academic health center. As a major regional referral center, OHSU has a varied and challenging caseload. The surgical pathology lab processes over 43,000 surgical specimens per year. The Department of Pathology has a collegial faculty, AP/CP residency program, a post-sophomore fellowship program, and five post-graduate fellowship programs. We are supported by excellent molecular genetic laboratories and a state-of-the-art core laboratory. OHSU offers a variety of collaborative research opportunities and is home to the Knight Cancer Institute, an international leader in research and cancer treatment.

Function/Duties of Position:

This position will be assigned to the Clinical Pathology Division, with principal responsibilities in all aspects of the Chemistry Laboratory, including development of laboratory policies, procedures, and protocols in accordance with institutional guidelines and safety regulations, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement, collaborating with stakeholders to ensure effective communication and coordination with clinicians and providers, participating in evening and weekend calls for chemistry-related issues.

Educational responsibilities include participation in the instructional program for medical and graduate students, residents, and fellows. This role serves as Pathology Resident Rotation Director for the Clinical Chemistry rotation. This faculty member is also responsible for resident educational oversight, teaching conferences, and didactic lessons. This role also coordinates with faculty members to ensure that laboratory activities align with the curriculum and learning objectives.

Research responsibilities are to participate in clinical and basic research programs at OHSU as opportunities provide, and to work toward funding these studies through grants and contracts. Provide support and guidance to faculty and students conducting research.

The effort for this position at present is divided: 10% teaching; 80% clinical service; 10% research.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Board certification in Clinical Pathology or PhD in Chemistry by American board of Clinical Chemistry.
  2. At least 3 years of clinical laboratory training and experience in high complexity testing with a preference for experience in Mass Spectrometry.
  3. Strong knowledge of laboratory regulations, including CLIA and CAP standards.
  4. Interests in providing the highest quality medical care and medical education, and actively participating in clinical scholar-type research resulting in publication.
