Reporting directly to the President, the Executive Director of Finance will oversee budget development and management, managing and leading financial initiatives, fiscal operations, and accountability. The Executive Director of Finance serves as a strategic advisor to the President and recommends financial objectives, policies, programs, and practices that ensure a sound financial present and future for the University.

Position Specific Responsibilities
- Create models and reports that measure returns on investments and provide information to the senior executives for decision making purposes.
- Coordinate the compilation and preparation of operational and financial reports and analysis setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations.
- Provide analysis and expertise to drive sustainable business models for academics and operations.
- Ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and applicable federal, state and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting.
- Provide monthly, and annual reporting to Leadership.
- Oversee the development, implementation, and management of financial systems and financial policies and procedures as appropriate.
- Oversee the budget preparation process.
- Oversee the financial analysis of major programs, new initiatives, and capital projects; provide recommendations to senior executives regarding investments.
- Provides oversight to financial operations.
- Development of the annual budget process including facilitating training, quality control review and disseminating information to ensure the budget process runs smoothly while promoting a culture of stewardship and understanding of University policies.
- Run and analyze monthly departmental budget reports and distribute to departments on a timely basis.
- Work collaboratively with Budget Managers monthly as needed to assist with budget monitoring including education, recommendations, and ensuring that they remain on track to keep within budget by financial year end.
- Model core organizational beliefs and values; communicate openly and effectively within and across departments; establish and maintain professional communication and ensure that all interactions are supportive, courteous, and respectful (TKU Social Covenant).
- Utilize effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly both internally and publically.
- Participate in professional development activities that are aligned with University, departmental and individual goals.
- Maintain accurate and complete records as required by governing entities (DOE, TRACS, ABHE, etc.); file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings and serve on committees as required.
- Comply with all policies, operating procedures, legal requirements, and verbal and written directives.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Provide supervision to the Director of Finance.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Certfications:
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
Experience:
- 5+ years of financial leadership experience required.
- Experience in higher education (preferred).
- A person of highest integrity.
- Strong finance and accounting skills, including the ability to develop, refine, and effectively communicate financial tools and analysis to inform decision making and thoughtful discussion about the financial implications of policy decisions.
- Clear understanding of the operational and financial dimensions of the University.
- Ability to enable higher performance by improving approaches based on calculated risks and benefits.
- The capacity to communicate effectively and work collaboratively.
- A proven track record of creating a climate of openness and mutual respect.
- Strong customer service aptitude and ability to motivate staff.
- Clear and concise communication skills, both orally and in writing.
- The ability to develop, interpret and apply University policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
