We are currently seeking an Engineering Design Professional - Building Physics to join our team. As an Engineering Design Professional - Building Physics you will be responsible for performing energy and thermal comfort analysis using a variety of industry standard and proprietary tools. The Engineering Design Professional - Building Physics supports the design of and is responsible for the consulting and technical analysis of high performance, sustainable buildings and community’s projects.Supports the technical analysis and development of high performance, low energy design solutions throughout the project design cycle.Organizes and maintains energy model and analysis files for multiple projects.Develops building heating and cooling load calculations.Assists with equipment and component performance analysis.Performs embodied and operational carbon calculations.Supports building life cycle cost analysis.Prepares accurate reports and calculations.Communicates analysis methods, results, and recommendations.Works closely with project team and assists to complete projects on aggressive schedules.Performs work in a clear, complete, and accurate manner.Utilizes knowledge and experience in applying modeling principles.Implements and utilizes HOK Standards for projects and processes.Actively seeks new knowledge related to engineering practices, principles and regulations changes.Takes personal responsibility for fostering a green workplace through sustainable work practices.Fosters a commitment to external and internal client service.Required SkillsBasic knowledge of building physics and holistic, high performance building design.Basic knowledge of low and zero carbon energy technologies and other energy infrastructure strategies such as electrification, district energy, and combined heat and power systems.Basic knowledge of sustainability, integrated design, LEED guidelines, and different high-performance buildings assessment methodologies and metrics.Basic knowledge of QA/QC process.Basic knowledge of building energy codes and ability to research and apply/incorporate into technical documents.Experience in complex building heat transfer analysis and in using IES-VE, Energy Plus, or other equivalent industry standard software packages is preferred.Experience in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis in internal and external building environments using Ansys, Butterfly, IES-VE and other equivalent industry standard packages is preferred.Experience in modeling or simulation of highly varied and challenging analysis problems.Strong analytical and research capabilities; ability to accurately define problems and develop solutions using existing or developing bespoke tools.Basic knowledge of lifecycle costs and returns on investment of energy conservation measures.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.Proficiency in 3D modeling software tools such as Rhino, Sketchup, and 3D Studio Max preferred.Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD preferred.Ability to support practical, innovative, and sustainable solutions to complex architectural and engineering problems.Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to technical and non-technical audiences.Ability to work in team environment.Ability to effectively meet deadlines.Required ExperienceBachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Physics is required.One to three plus years’ experience in HVAC systems and HVAC controls design or one to three plus years’ experience in sustainable design, energy systems, or low carbon infrastructure is preferred.Certifications such as ASHRAE BEMP and HPBD are preferred.LEED accreditation or Green Associate is preferred (required within first year of HOK employment).HOK is committed to providing our employees with a comprehensive benefits plan to meet their current and future needs.
