Under supervision of the Manager, guided by policies and procedures of Ambulatory Services, the Medical Assistant III, will actively participate on a multidisciplinary quality improvement team to improve the health of targeted patients with chronic illness across UCSF Medical Center practices The role of the Medical Assistant is to assist the care team by coordinating care for patients on and off the daily schedule. The Medical Assistant will act as a primary conduit for the transmission of information between providers and patients and coordinate services for all patients who are part of the assigned panel, especially those with serious, complex or chronic health problems. The Medical Assistant will provide advocacy, information and referral services to patients and families to address their medical and psychosocial needs.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $32.86 - $41.01 (Hourly Rate).

Required Qualifications
- Certification from an approved Medical Assistant program, with certification in phlebotomy where applicable.
- Two years of experience as a Medical Assistant / Hospital Assistant in a medical practice.
- Knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
- Current American Heart Association CPR Certification
- Demonstrated computer familiarity, keyboard skills, computer literate in programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel required.
- Willingness to learn new computer programs as needed to sustain practice operations.
- Ability to work effectively with people from diverse cultures and diverse socioeconomic situations.
- High School graduation and three years of appropriate experience, including one year of supervisory experience where applicable; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with Epic
- Familiarity with the California Immunization Registry (CAIR) Familiarity with Immunizations and childhood vaccines.
- Demonstrated fluency in Spanish or Chinese language: speaking, reading and writing Internal Medicine, Geriatric or Family Medicine experience.
- Familiarity and/or prior experience using a disease registry to track a population of patients
- Experience collecting, and entering data, identifying errors and missing information, and performing basic analysis Experience working with the public, preferably in a medical/hospital/clinic environment.
License/Certification
- Current American Heart Association CPR Certification.
