The Bartender at Marcus Live! Bar and Grille creates the bar’s personality. The Bartender is often the first contact our guests will have with the service staff. As a result, Bartenders will often set the tone for the guest’s experience. Bartenders must maintain a pristine bar that is both visually appealing and in line with health code standards. Bartenders are expected to honor recipes and deliver a consistent product. The complete inventory and daily maintenance of the bar, as well as production and service, are the responsibility of this position.
A bartender is a server first and foremost, and it is the responsibility of the bartender to provide guests with an exceptional and memorable experience. The bartender is responsible for guiding our guests through their meal and acting as an ambassador for the restaurant using their comprehensive knowledge, positive demeanor, and sincere desire to serve and make people happy. At the same time, the bartender is a resource for guests and servers alike on all of the restaurant’s beverage offerings.
Bartenders must have leadership skills, be able to communicate with all types of personalities, and be courteous with guests and co-workers. It is the responsibility of the bartender to coordinate service steps with their team to provide a seamless experience. They must know the roles and responsibilities of support staff and choreograph service. It is the duty of the bartender to ensure that the guest’s needs have been met and their satisfaction exceeded. The server must be able to cooperate with managers, chefs, and co-workers. They are integral in training new hires according to our guidelines. The server role is key to the success of Hav+Mar.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide courteous, prompt service to our guests
- Prepare beverage orders for bar and dining areas, adhering to signature recipes
- Understand Hav & Mar’s steps of service and consistently execute them with efficiency and grace while maintaining a sense of urgency throughout the service
- Be a menu expert, educating customers on our food & drinks menus, making recommendations based on their preferences, up-selling special items and taking orders.
- Seek opportunities to inform guests about additional offerings when applicable
- Responsible for entering guest orders accurately into POS system (Toast)
- Communicate guest requests, including dietary restrictions, to culinary staff
- Ensure guests are enjoying their meals and take action to correct any problems.
- Effective and timely communication to all FOH/BOH team members throughout the service
- Receive and process payments (cash and credit cards)
- Prepare all menu items to standard, serving quality beverages and dishes to our guests
- Ensure excellent maintenance of the bar and dining room
- Maintain a positive, outgoing demeanor during service, with guests and co-workers
- Be safety-conscious to promote the safety of one’s self, co-workers and guests at all times
- Check that restaurant equipment, including brewing equipment, is operating properly and report any maintenance needs
- Interact with genuine and patient hospitality when speaking to vendors and guests; cultivate relationships with regulars
- Able to multitask and cover multiple FOH roles depending on the demands of the business, including but not limited to Barista, Cashier, Food Runner, Bar Support
- Help food preparation staff when necessary.
- Have a general understanding of Department of Health (DOH) food safety standards
- Perform opening and closing duties
- Maintain a positive, outgoing demeanor during service
- Adhere to company policy and procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned by management
Bartender Qualifications:
- Possess a passion for hospitality, teamwork and exceeding guest expectations
- Minimum 1-year serving experience in a high-volume restaurant operation
- Knowledge of beer, wine and spirits
- Prior related experience requiring cash handling, excellent customer service, service recovery and problem-solving skills\
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while managing the needs of guests
- Ability to work cohesively with co-workers throughout the restaurant
- Ability to work a flexible schedule
- Must be punctual with scheduled shifts.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, pull and place objects weighing up to 25 lbs. Requires frequent bending, reaching overhead, and twisting. Must be able to stand or walk for an extended period or for an entire work shift.
