The Department of English at UCLA invites applications for a tenure-track position in postcolonial literature at the rank of beginning Assistant Professor. We are especially interested in applicants with expertise in literature from Africa, South Asia, and the Arab world.
We seek outstanding candidates with the potential for exceptional research, excellence in teaching, and a clear commitment to enhancing the diversity of the faculty, graduate student population, and majors and minors in English. The Department values interdisciplinarity and welcomes applicants who pursue postcolonial studies via a broad range of methodological frameworks.

1) A cover letter discussing the candidate’s research in postcolonial studies, teaching experience and interests, and other relevant experience.
2) A statement of research interests.
3) A statement indicating the applicant’s investments in and contributions to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
4) A current CV.
5) Three (3) letters of reference.
6) Reference check authorization release form.
7) A writing sample of 20-25 pages that represents the candidate’s research interests and strengths in the field of postcolonial studies.
A PhD or equivalent terminal degree is required by the start date of July 1, 2025. Review of applications will begin on November 1, 2024. The committee may request additional materials after an initial examination of the applications.
The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and/or step at appointment. The salary range for this position is $78,200 - $101,400. Off-scale salaries and other components of pay may be offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions.
