**Job Title:** Central Sterile Technician (Certified)
**Job Specialty:** Sterile Processing
**Job Duration:** 13 weeks
**Shift:** 3rd shift, Friday to Monday, 10-hour shifts (8:30 PM to 7:00 AM)
**Guaranteed Hours:** 40 hours per week
**Experience:** Six months of related experience
**License:** None required
**Certifications:** Technician Certification from either the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) required.
**Must-Have:**
- Knowledge of maintenance and sterilization of medical supplies and equipment
- Understanding of applicable sanitation and hygiene standards
- Familiarity with safety practices of steam and gas plasma sterilization
- Skills in record keeping
- Good computer skills
- Effective customer service skills
**Job Description:**
- Responsible for cleaning, decontamination, assembly, packaging, and sterilization of surgical instrumentation and reusable supply items.
- Coordinate and prepare necessary supplies and instruments for surgical cases.
- Assemble and wrap instrument sets.
- Ensure proper use of sonic cleaners and related equipment.
- Deliver surgical instruments promptly.
- Inspect instruments for cleanliness and repair before sterilization.
- Decontaminate instruments using proper chemical mixtures and procedures.
- Operate and load autoclaves and maintain sterilization log sheets.
- Routinely clean and decontaminate work surfaces.
- Check sterile inventory and re-sterilize compromised sets.
- Report inventory or supply shortages.
- Assist in training new staff if needed.
- Prepare and maintain accurate case carts.
- Coordinate with operating room staff to ensure supply needs for cases.
- Maintain optimal levels of patient care surgical supplies and equipment.
- Practice good inventory control techniques by following FIFO (first in, first out).
