The Payroll Specialist will prepare and analyze data for preparation of semi-monthly payrolls, special payrolls, payroll and tax filing analysis, and account reconciliations. They will also assist with audits, budgets, and special projects.

Duties and responsibilities:

  1. Compile, prepare, import, and analyze data for each semi-monthly payroll and special payrolls to ensure accuracy.
  2. Review all new hires, terms, and LOAs to ensure information is accurate. Work with HR as needed to make necessary updates. Review to ensure employee files are accurate for all regular payrolls. Ensure wage frequency laws are adhered to.
  3. Update for tax files, remote workers, and other various changes that are needed.
  4. Process Expat related payroll information and review for accuracy.
  5. Prepare post payroll reports for various departments. Review, analyze, and resolve any issues.
  6. Prepare and file various local tax returns.
  7. Prepare new payroll/tax registrations and work with governmental agencies.
  8. Resolve various payroll/tax related issues & notices.
  9. Review and analyze quarterly tax filings, reports, variances, etc. Analyze, research, and resolve any issues.
  10. Work with management as necessary.
  11. Prepare tax and payroll check requests.
  12. Prepare various reports for various departments, audits, and insurance renewals. Review, analyze, and research issues as necessary.

This position allows for a hybrid work schedule with the expectation of 3 days in our downtown Chicago office and 2 days working remotely from home.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting recommended.
  2. 5+ years of accounting/payroll/tax experience in a professional services environment required.
  3. Ceridian Dayforce Payroll processing is a plus.
  4. Knowledge of accounting/tax/payroll systems, procedures, and principles.
  5. Strong oral and/or written communication skills to solicit and communicate information effectively.
  6. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  7. Flexibility in all aspects of payroll processing.
  8. Ability to communicate with all levels of personnel.
  9. Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
  10. High level of confidentiality.
