About This Opportunity

We are seeking a Sr Energy Engineer .

The Senior Engineer engages with our clients at a high level to assess their operations, identify opportunities, and provide recommendations to maximize energy efficiency and performance in commercial building systems. The Sr Engineer takes the lead to consult, gather data, create optimization models of commercial systems, and write feasibility reports for energy efficiency projects, while leading overall management of projects. The Sr Engineer provides mentorship and contributes to peer support and quality control review.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Lead, manage, and direct high-impact projects and maintain accountability on assigned projects.
  • Calculate energy savings for various system or equipment changes using existing calculation tools, original spreadsheets, and/or generally accepted engineering methodologies.
  • Engage with clients at their commercial locations to gain a deep understanding of their equipment and operations, identify opportunities for energy efficiency, and provide recommendations.
  • Foster and grow client relationships and identify opportunities that may result in generating significant new work from new and existing clients.
  • Present complex technical issues with a diverse audience in a way that facilitates understanding and consensus.
  • Compose energy efficiency project reports based on analyses and observations.
  • Document performance through data collection from customer sources or via installed data logging equipment.
  • Maintain expert knowledge of utility programs and their compliance requirements.
  • Provide peer mentorship through technical discussions and work review.

This is a full-time, exempt position located in the Greater Los Angeles area or Central Valley, California.

This position requires approximately 20%-30% travel, most of which is local. Travel could be a half-day trip to a site or to meet with a vendor, a full day to multiple sites, or an occasional overnight to a more distant area.

Qualifications

Applicants for this role are required to have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, or a related field of study, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of energy engineering experience, preferably in a consulting practice but may also be as energy manager for a corporation or directly as part of a utility program. Experience should be related to commercial/buildings energy efficiency or large-scale commercial (HVAC) energy consulting.
  • Expert technical knowledge of commercial systems, for example: controls, general HVAC, steam systems, chillers, cooling towers, lighting, custom computer modeling of systems, data analysis.
  • Experience in some/all of these areas:
    • Commercial Energy Efficiency
    • Commercial HVAC Controls Commissioning or Retro Commissioning
    • Strategic Energy Management (SEM)
    • Industrial Energy Efficiency

The salary range for this position in Los Angeles is $116,000 - $141,700. However, final salary offered may vary depending on non-discriminatory factors such as job-related knowledge, skills and experiences, and geographical location if different than the above.
