Summary of Position:
To maintain the entire facility that is The Scott Resort & Spa; to include the physical building structures, all mechanical, electrical, H.V.A.C. systems, pools, and related equipment in accordance with energy conservation and preventive maintenance programs. Ensure the upkeep of all guest and associate areas to maintain an attractive well-maintained resort. Manage and oversee all renovation and other special projects.
Essential Functions:
- Conduct walk-throughs and visually assess the safe and efficient maintenance and operation of the physical structures of the resort, all mechanical, electrical, H.V.A.C. systems and any other related equipment.
- Verify completion of all routine maintenance in public spaces, meeting rooms, outlets, back of the house spaces and grounds. Verify completion of all repairs, replacements, and renovation projects that take place in all offices and the employee work areas.
- Hire, thoroughly train and/or ensure that all Engineering Associates are thoroughly trained; supervise and coach all staff that fall under the Engineering department.
- Regularly inform the General Manager and all Resort Department Heads on the specific and overall condition of the building structures, related systems and equipment. Offer prudent and cost effective proposals for maintaining the same equipment and/or proposals for purchasing new equipment or new systems. Access and input information via computer to generate various reports.
- Adhere to all purchasing policies and controls, as required by the Director of Finance and Corporate Office, to include all outside contractor bids, budgets and schedules.
- Maintain effective energy management and preventive maintenance programs by conducting special training resort wide. The training focuses on the safe and effective use of equipment and it also focuses on energy conservation resort wide.
- Maintain financial responsibilities including managing the annual budget for Engineering, reviewing monthly P&L reports, monitoring labor costs to budget, comparing payroll projections to actual.
- Review and approve training materials, monitoring testing coaching, mentoring, and recognition tools.
- Attend weekly Leadership meetings (as scheduled) and communicate pertinent messages to staff. Attend Stand Up and needed pre-convention meetings and other meetings assigned by the General Manager (or ensure attendance of Engineering Supervisor).
- Lead department goal planning, continuous improvement projects, and recurring training efforts.
- Empower team and self to handle difficult guest situations and guest challenges to ensure satisfactory results for all concerned.
- Implement new resort procedures, as necessary.
- Mentor, delegate and work closely with Engineering Supervisor.
- Assure quality service and develop and maintain 4 diamond quality service levels.
- Other tasks as assigned by General Manager/Director of Operations.
Supportive Functions:
- Maintain organized and efficient administrative and filing systems within Engineering for the timely and accurate handling of correspondence, reports, requisitions for purchase, and other administrative requirements of the department.
- Maintain a well-defined and organized system within the shop for inventory. Maintenance and storage of all tools, products, materials, and equipment necessary to execute the required activities of the department.
- Be immediately available to report to the resort in the event of any emergency which necessitates the skills and expertise of the Director. Emergencies may include but are not limited to: fires, power outages, equipment failures, etc.
- Perform other duties as requested, such as coordination and supervision of special guest requests for suite and/or meeting space modification, construction of props for special resort functions and employee relations events.
Qualifications:
Education: Graduation from high school and from an apprenticeship and/or advanced training program for operating engineers recognized by the industry and trade. Or any other combination of education, training, or experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job. College degree preferred.
Experience: Five years experience as journey mechanic or engineer with a class “A” hotel company or related industry. Two years experience as head or Chief Engineer in the same or similar environment.
Certificates or Licenses: Any licenses or permits that may be required by federal/state law or company regulations, such as an electrician’s license.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Excellent knowledge of electrical systems, components, and devices, H.V.A.C. systems, boilers, mechanical systems, maintenance and repair of all areas.
- Excellent knowledge of public construction and building systems, all related permits, licensing, new and existing codes pertaining to public building and fire safety.
- Ability to properly and safely use all tools equipment, materials, chemicals, and products related to the department.
- Excellent English verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Able to communicate in a positive way, train associates, offer assistance in areas where associates lack knowledge, skills and/or experience. Able to rephrase or translate fairly technical information into terms a lay person may easily understand.
- Ability to analyze all associated systems as to their design, intent, and effective performance.
- Able to climb, stand, stoop and maneuver around the property and work area in order to perform the essential functions of the positions.
- Ability to train and supervise with strong leadership skills.
- Ability to make quick and efficient decisions to benefit the team, guest and the resort.
- Ability to use a moderately complex computer system and troubleshoot software problems associated with Engineering.
