Our client has an opening for a hands-on Director of Software Engineering. This is a full-time direct hire role with a rapidly growing company based out of Philadelphia. The role will work on a hybrid model.

In this leadership role, you will play a pivotal part in shaping the technical direction of our company, overseeing the software development lifecycle, and fostering a culture of excellence within the engineering organization.

This position allows you to leverage strong technical skills in Java and modern web technologies to guide a high-performing engineering team.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership and vision, ensuring the engineering team aligns with strategic business objectives.
  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of complex software solutions using Java, Spring, JPA, Postgres, and JavaFX.
  • Champion the adoption and implementation of CI/CD pipelines to streamline the software delivery process.
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performing engineering team by mentoring, coaching, and providing career development opportunities.
  • Manage technical debt and promote best practices in software development, including version control with Git and project management with Atlassian tools.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (product, design, etc.) to ensure seamless software delivery.
  • Champion technical innovation, staying abreast of the latest trends in Java and web technologies.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key vendors and partners.
  • Apply a working knowledge of TCP/IP networking principles to inform software design decisions.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven track record of building and shipping high-quality, scalable software applications.
  • In-depth knowledge of Java, Spring, JPA, Postgres, JavaFX, CI/CD technologies, Git, and Atlassian tools.
  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP networking concepts.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to mentor and guide junior engineers.
  • Passion for building and inspiring high-performing teams.
