Position: Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Supervisor: Chief Executive Officer

Location: Bud Clark Commons; 665 NW Hoyt St

Hours: Monday - Friday (weekends and evenings as needed)

Salary: $95,000-$105,000/yr.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

The Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is a forward-thinking leader with deep insights and strategic thinking, who successfully partners with leaders across the agency and the community to continue transforming our dominant culture agency that employs and serves diverse people to a multicultural agency that engages and embraces the cultures of our staff and program participants.

As a key member of the agencys senior leadership team, the Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion promotes justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion in our workplace and programs by: 1) conducting ongoing evaluation of the agencys policies, procedures, decision-making, programming, and program environments, 2) advising and holding accountable other leaders and employees on equitable and inclusive practices, and 3) making program- and agency-level recommendations to advance equitable outcomes and strengthen our accountability to employees and to those we serve.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as a change agent to provide solutions, resources, and training on DEI-related topics.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders to integrate justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion practices into institutional workplace policies and practices, and into agency and program goals. Translate strategies into tactical plans with clear actions, accountability, and goals to promote just and equitable agency practices.
  • Consult and advise at all levels of the agency to improve our organizations culture and environment; ensuring we foster a culture that is inclusive, innovative, willing to take risks, that proactively leverages multiple dimensions of diversity.
  • Develop, implement, and report on the agencys annual equity plan.
  • Research and develop metrics for measuring the effectiveness of DEI initiatives implemented and prepare quarterly reports to the board and senior leadership on the value and progress of the initiatives. Develops, improves, and oversees DEI metrics and dashboards. Tracks & analyzes key metrics and partners with leaders to drive improvement
  • Build pro-active relationships within the organization and within the community with cross-functional subject matter experts to ensure alignment and focus on justice, equity, diversity and inclusion in all practices. Partner with senior leadership team to integrate DEI into core decisions throughout the organization.
  • Provide strategic leadership in the development of culturally responsive policies and service delivery models. Contribute to development of funding proposals.
  • Work closely with Information Services and Human Resources to analyze participant and employee access, outcome, and experience data by race/ethnicity, age, gender identity, and other categories. Identify and address, in partnership with agency leadership, any areas of disparity.
  • Provide leadership and coordination to the agencys Equity Committee.
  • Develop and deliver training and workshops related to diversity, equity, and inclusion and incorporate equity education into existing and newly created training programs. Support leadership efforts to ensure that staff understand and embody the agencys equity values.
  • Address equity issues through advocacy, facilitation, training, etc. Advocate for mission-focused departmental and organizational change, even when such advocacy may meet with resistance.
  • Attend Board meetings when requested and report on the state of diversity, equity, and inclusion at Transition Projects.
  • Builds relationships with national, local, and specialized organizations and professional development organizations, as is relevant to the fulfillment of the organizations equity goals.
  • Assist in preparation, implementation, and oversight of department budgets and manage budget and expenditures for all equity-focused projects and programs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

Each Transition Projects employee must:

  • Acquire First Aid/CPR/AED certification within 30 days of hire and be retested biannually thereafter throughout employment.
  • Complete Bloodborne Pathogens and Narcan Training within 30 days of hire and be retested annually thereafter throughout employment.
  • Demonstrate reliability by being present for work as scheduled, arriving and leaving on time and taking breaks in expected time frames.
  • Interact effectively with persons of diverse ethnic backgrounds, religious views, cultural backgrounds, and sexual orientations and treat each individual with respect and dignity.
  • Attend agency and program staff meetings.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical and mental demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee, with or without accommodation, to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Hearing and vision adequate for interaction with program participants, interaction with staff and interaction with the general public.
  • Hearing adequate for telephone work. Vision adequate for close work.
  • Hand and finger dexterity adequate to operate standard office equipment.
  • Position includes significant time sitting at a desk completing paperwork and working on a computer.
  • Ability to perform CPR for fifteen minutes continuously.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The right individual for this position has a passion for helping others and a desire to work in an organization that serves people who are experiencing poverty and homelessness.

  • Masters degree in human resources, organizational development, social sciences, or a related field strongly preferred + 3-5 years of experience creating and implementing DEI related programs and initiatives -OR- 7-10 years creating and implementing DEI related programs and initiatives.
  • Ability to align training with the values and strategic goals of the agency. Demonstrated experience designing curriculum, facilitating training, and evaluating training effectiveness.
  • Practical experience with multiple training methodologies (classroom, self-study, on-the-job, online).
  • Experience developing, managing, and tracking training budgets.
  • Advanced proficiency with MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint); demonstrated ability to use HRIS programs; experience with Paycom preferred.
  • Editing proficiency and excellent grammar. Is detail-oriented, a strong proofreader, and capable of drafting routine correspondence and preparing other written materials in a professional, accurate, and timely manner. Able to maintain accurate and consistent documentation and records.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills. Able to work in a diverse team environment in leadership, peer, and support roles, to communicate professionally at all levels, and to build relationships with stakeholders, including staff, board members, external partners and donors.
  • Possesses a strong commitment to professional and ethical standards. Able to think and act strategically, maintain confidentiality, use diplomacy and discretion, offer sound judgement, and share and receive feedback.
