Located in Lexington Kentucky or New York City, the VP/D of Capital Markets role reports directly to one of the Co-Heads of the Transaction Team. This role will be responsible for MiddleGround Capital’s deal-by-deal capital raising efforts across the firm, inclusive of acquisition financing for new investments and capital structure monitoring and optimization for existing portfolio companies, in addition to supporting co-investment processes and other capital raising activities, as requested.

  • Investment and Portfolio Company Financing: Lead financing processes for new investments and manage capital structures of existing portfolio companies in collaboration with deal teams and debt advisors, as needed.
  • Relationship Management: Maintain relationships with lenders and debt advisory groups across middle market as well as MiddleGround’s investors, as relevant. Represent MiddleGround at industry events and conferences.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Collaborate with internal teams, General/Limited Partners, external advisors, and portfolio company management to communicate and align on capital raising activities, progress, and critical milestones. Ensure that all stakeholders are informed and engaged throughout the portfolio company life cycle.
  • Market Research and Trends Analysis: Stay current with industry trends, credit market conditions, and emerging capital structures to optimize portfolio company capitalization.
  • Collaborate on Exits & Realizations: Collaborate with VP/D Exits & Realizations to advise on an ideal timeline for Portfolio exits and subsequent strategy.
  • Leadership and Mentorship: Provide leadership and mentorship to junior team members, inspiring growth and development with the team as well as adjacent/related teams within the firm.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, business, or related field required; master's degree preferred
  • 5 to 7 years of experience in a similar leadership capacity
  • Experience in direct lending or leveraged finance – experience in syndicated loan market a plus
  • Experience in industrials strongly preferred
  • Strong financial analysis skills, including experience in financial modeling, valuation techniques, and a deep understanding of accounting principles
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work closely with internal teams, external advisors, and portfolio company management
  • Transactional experience with sponsor leverage buyouts and corporate debt transactions
  • Credit analysis skills preferred
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to coordinate and lead cross-functional teams both directly and indirectly
  • Proactive in staying up-to-date with market developments
  • Results-oriented and focused on producing high-quality product and results through creative problem solving
