Responsibilities

  • Develop diagnostic methods to detect epigenetic signatures on circulating tumor DNA in human plasma samples
  • Lead and execute process development to optimize cell growth, transfection, and viral infection using shake flasks, small-scale, and large-scale bioreactors.
  • Engineer recombinant proteins able to detect specific DNA modifications
  • Conduct head-to-head comparative experiments against commercial products
  • Lead QC efforts for protein purification and assay development
  • Provide support for and lead the transfer of developed upstream processes to internal and external manufacturing parties
  • Author technical reports, SOPs, batch records and technology transfer documents; contribute to scientific documentation of patent applications and subsequent internal and external presentation and/or publication of new technologies
  • Support lab operations through management of lab equipment; support development of lab capabilities through analysis of lab operations and capital management. Lead acquisition of new lab equipment as needed including assessing requirements and developing proposals.
  • Train and oversee junior colleagues with respect to lab activities

Qualifications

  • Ph.D in protein engineering, molecular biology, bioinformatics, bioengineering, biochemistry, biotechnology, or related fields
  • Previous experience developing manufacturing processes in protein biologics
  • Previous experience with DNA-protein binding assay techniques
  • Previous experience with bacterial protein expression and purification using magnetic beads
  • Proficient with immunoprecipitation such as ChIP or ELISA
  • Strong desire to learn new techniques, willingness to work collaboratively as part of a team, and be productive in a fast-paced start-up environment

Recommended

  • Ph.D. with 0-2 years of industry or relevant experience in process development
  • Ph.D. with experience in clinical assay development and/or protein engineering strongly desired
  • Prior experience with protein modeling is strongly desired
  • Prior experience working with epigenetic modifications
  • Proficient with aseptic techniques and the use of shake flasks, rocking bag bioreactors, and stirred tank bioreactors at various scales
  • Knowledge of statistical design of experiments, as well as data analysis using JMP or other statistical package is desired
