POSITION TITLE: After School Attendant
LOCATION/DEPT: Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center
REPORTS to (TITLE): After School and Day Camp Manager
OUTCOMES
The After School Attendant is responsible for the supervision of participants in the after school program, Holiday Camp and Kroc special events. The After School Attendant will ensure that participants are provided a safe, enriched, and stimulated environment - promote program membership and increase involvement in other RJKCCC programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide a safe environment for participants.
- Assist in planning, directing and guiding the activities within the After School and Holiday Camps area of the RJKCCC.
- Assist in creating lesson plans for after school programs and Holiday Camps that include homework assistance, computer lab, snack, Bible lessons, and physical activity.
- Enforce all rules that pertain to program area and facility on a constant basis.
- Perform regular head counts and keep an accurate attendance list of assigned children.
- Follow Safe from Harm Guidelines/Procedures.
- Adhere to check-in and check-out policy.
- Maintain supervision of all participants in each program areas.
- Perform scheduled and random head counts and keep an accurate attendance list of assigned participants.
- Follow and adhere to disciplinary procedures.
- Maintain cleanliness of program areas and the operational safety of all equipment.
- Assist in emergencies or treatment of injured participants.
- Complete incident reports thoroughly and promptly.
- Keep participant's issues confidential (Do not share issues with other participants, parents, patrons, news organizations, or staff members who are not involved).
- Ensure the safe use of the facility and execution of activities through enforcement of facility and activity-specific regulations.
- Allow only authorized staff or approved volunteers to participate in activities with participants.
- Protect, maintain, and be accountable for program supplies and equipment
- Assist with inventory and adequate storage of program equipment and supplies.
- Report all facility, equipment and supply defects/problems to the After School and Day Camp Manager.
- Assist in the Kid/Adventure/Teen Zone as needed or assigned.
- Attend all mandatory meetings/trainings.
- Adhere to dress code.
- Required to be in uniform at all times.
- May be required to wear activity appropriate attire (i.e., swimwear for Aquatics, special events, etc.).
- Provide an enriching, stimulating and safe environment.
- Provide leadership with enthusiasm.
- Encourage participants to participate in a variety of activities.
- Recognize the spiritual need of individuals, which may require referral to the After School and Day Camp Manager.
- Assist in athletic program area preparation/clean up and/or additional shifts within the athletics department. Assist in supervision of gymnasium, field and special events and game room areas.
- Encourage skill enhancements in program participants.
- Provide excellent customer service and communication with parents.
- Greet participants and parents, by name, enthusiastically.
- Interface respectfully with peers, supervisors and customers of various socio-economic backgrounds. Resolve conflict with participants, parents and students in a professional manner with guidance of Lead Attendant and/or After School and Day Camp Manager.
- Communicate any disciplinary issues to manager and parents.
- Encourage participation in other RJKCCC program offering.
- Have knowledge of other RJKCCC programs to answer questions accurately.
- Promote membership and classes.
- May be required at times to drive a 15 passenger van.
- Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Under general supervision of the After School and Day Camp Manager with some freedom to plan, schedule and carry out responsibilities within established policies and guidelines.
EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE
- A High School diploma or a GED is required. Some related college coursework preferred.
- Must be 18 years or older.
- 2 years of experience working with children preferred.
- Experience with a computer based work environment and a working knowledge of Word.
- Have, or obtain within three months, a valid Illinois Drivers' License and insured transportation and be able to meet The Salvation Army's requirements.

- CPR/First Aid/AED Certified.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position is required to do light to moderate physical work. In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to operate equipment used in a children's day school program. At times this employee is required to lift up to 40 pounds. The work environment for this position includes high levels of noise and flexibility in a constant changing environment.
