Position Overview
The Accounting Manager supports the accounting, bookkeeping, and financial operations of the organization. If you love numbers, QuickBooks and spreadsheets, have a laser-focused attention to detail, and are inspired by the movement to build long term power of working class communities and communities of color, we would like to talk with you.
This is an exempt, full time, hybrid position in our Oakland office. In all duties and responsibilities, this position exercises discretion and works closely with the rest of the Finance Team. Remote work will be considered for appropriate candidates who will be able to travel to the SF Bay Area 4 times/year.
Essential Responsibilities
- Finances (85%)
Accounting
- Payable System management: oversight of BILL system and payables team, lead in troubleshooting and entering recurring and ACH expenses from bank statement
- Revenue entry management: create invoices and recognize payments for assorted revenue streams and enter bank deposits
- Reconciliations: reconcile balance sheet accounts including BILL, liability and assets, bank and investment accounts
- Transaction coding: review account allocations monthly and reallocate to appropriate accounts as needed
- Assist in audit preparation
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements for both nonprofit and for profit entities
- Assist in inter-company transactions and reconciliations
- Assist with organizational cash flow and forecasting
Project Supervision (10%)
- Coordinate with payables team to refine and enhance our financial systems related to payables work
Shared Staff Responsibilities (5%)
- Participate in staff activities for planning and evaluation as needed
Essential Qualifications
As a prerequisite, the successful candidate must believe in the core values of CPA, CEP, CEPEF and Resilient Strategies and be driven by the mission. The candidate should demonstrate a passion for breaking new ground to lead social change.
Additionally, we are looking for someone who:
- Minimum of 3 years QuickBooks, bookkeeping and accounting, and advanced Excel experience
- Experience working with the Bill.com platforms
- Demonstrates integrity and honesty to present accurate and appropriate information, and to exercise excellent judgment in regard to confidential information
- Ability to coordinate multiple projects, tasks, meetings and priorities concurrently
- Strong time and energy management strategies
- Interacts routinely in conversations based on race and equity, professionally and personally, and should show comfort and experience doing so. Must be willing to engage in professional development in this area.
- Strong oral and written communications skills that can be utilized with a wide array of stakeholders with diverse perspectives and working styles
- Ability to be effective under pressure, meet time parameters, and be adaptable to change
- Willingness to work collaboratively, but with capacity to work independently
- Demonstrates accuracy, attention to detail and thoroughness in all workstreams, regularly monitoring own work to ensure quality
- Computer literacy with a number of platforms which may include QuickBooks Desktop and Online, Mac OS, Google Suite/Apps, MS Word, MS Excel, Airtable, and other basic software applications
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with nonprofit and for profit bookkeeping preferred (Resilient Strategies is an LLC but partner entities are non-profits & Political Action Committees)
- Experience with Abacus platforms
- Ability to learn new platforms easily and manage multiple sources of data
- Strong project management skills
- Ability to multitask, handling complex situations while maintaining a good sense of humor, patience, and thoughtfulness
Physical Demands
- Able to work on a computer, including sitting at a desk, for extended periods of time
- Manual dexterity to operate a keyboard
- Able to see or read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids
- Able to speak clearly and in audible tones on the phone and in person and be understood by others
- Able to hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone
- Able to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Able to occasionally lift objects weighing up to 10 pounds
Compensation: $60,000 - $75,000FTE depending on experience and qualifications. RS provides competitive benefits, including health insurance (medical, dental, vision) and substantial vacation days and paid time off.
