Position Summary :

SUNY Ulster County Community College, a two-year branch of the State University of New York located ninety miles north of New York City in the Catskill Mountains, is currently accepting applications for a Senior Director of Institutional Effectiveness.

As a member of the President’s Cabinet, the Senior Director of Institutional Effectiveness leads a comprehensive program of institutional effectiveness, research, strategic planning, and organizational development. This includes oversight of SUNY Ulster’s strategic plan and key performance indicators, the institutional effectiveness plan, regional accreditation, ensuring compliance with regulators required for accreditation, managing the College’s continuous improvement initiatives, and contributing to the employee professional development system. The position supervises a team of two experienced research and institutional effectiveness staff and reports to the College President.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Lead the timely design, development, and review of the institutional effectiveness plan, including an assessment cycle that requires regular assessment, reporting, and action plans. Provide training and assistance to improve assessment plans and monitor and provide updates on their implementation.
  2. Coordinate with all areas on design and analysis of outcomes assessment including data collection, analysis, reporting, and use of results.
  3. Champion SUNY Ulster’s assessment efforts including disseminating assessment results, advocating for the value of assessment, and identifying appropriate professional development strategies to support the College’s goals.
  4. Lead the College’s strategic planning process including tracking significant trends in institutional performance, fostering institutional understanding of the planning process, and providing periodic updates to the Board of Trustees, the President’s Cabinet, and the College community.
  5. Lead institutional efforts to create and support a culture of continual assessment and renewal and communicate quality improvement information to the College community.
  6. Assist faculty and staff in the development and implementation of program and/or service assessment including identification of appropriate data, data collection and analysis methods, interpretation of results, and the development of action plans.
  7. Assist units in the development of benchmarks in the core work of all departments.
  8. Assist areas in collection and extraction of data for reporting.
  9. Serve as a member of the President’s Cabinet providing continuous examination of college data to assist in institutional decision-making and planning.
  10. Oversee the relationship with the College’s regional accreditor.
  11. Oversee the formulation of and/or validation of reports transmitted to IPEDS, NYS ED and SUNY to ensure that data are submitted on schedule, contain accurate information, and are in compliance with reporting requirements.
  12. Develop, coordinate, administer, and/or report on institutional surveys.
  13. Monitor key performance indicator data.
  14. Ensure that SUNY Ulster’s Consumer Information webpage is complete, accurate, and current.
  15. Maintain a current knowledge of best practices in institutional assessment and routinely assess efforts to ensure that they are effective, making improvements as necessary.
  16. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Master’s Degree in a related discipline and a minimum of five years of progressive experience in higher education institutional effectiveness, research, and planning.
  2. Ability to provide leadership and supervision, and to coordinate a broad range of activities and projects simultaneously.
  3. Knowledge of research methodologies.
  4. Knowledge of higher education regional accreditation standards and requirements of affiliation.
  5. Strong conceptual and analytical skills; ability to collect, organize, and present data to a variety of audiences.
  6. Ability to meet deadlines.
  7. Ability to communicate well verbally and in writing.
  8. Ability to collaborate with faculty and staff in a manner that builds trust and supports the continuous improvement of College operations.
  9. Comprehensive understanding of current issues and trends in higher education.

  1. Commitment to community college goals and objectives of providing quality programs and services for culturally, socio-economically, ethnically, and academically diverse students and students with disabilities; personal qualities to work effectively and with sensitivity in a multicultural environment; awareness of and commitment to the needs of non-traditional and/or re-entry students with diverse abilities and interests.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Knowledge of quality models relevant to higher education (e.g. Baldridge, Aspen).
  2. Experience in management of continuous quality improvement.
  3. Experience with Ellucian-Banner.
  4. Understanding of the Middle States Commission for Higher Education standards.

Annual Salary:

An initial starting salary of $73,900 will be commensurate with education, training, and experience per academic year with an excellent benefits package. This position is contingent upon adequate funding.
