Your responsibilities

Summary:

The Senior Internal Quality Engineer will provide day-to-day manufacturing assistance to maintain process control systems, new product launches, improve product quality and support continuous improvement. Is responsible for development and management of programs/projects to modify existing equipment and/or processes to improve manufacturing yield, cost, efficiency and productivity, and maintain quality systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops quality processes, control & data collection systems and measurement protocols for new product introductions and improvements to existing production.
  • Provides quality leadership to new product development teams in the areas of design review feedback, machine/process capability analysis, risk management, lessons learned and best practices.
  • Drives product & process risk management activities and oversees implementation of necessary improvements
  • Provides effective management of defect control within the plant (containment of material & processes, identification of root cause, implementation of corrective action)
  • Manages quality notifications for non-conforming product and deviations. Monitors quality notification progress and works with cross-functional team to complete quality notifications per requirements.
  • Provides management with status updates on critical topics, strategic developments and project status
  • Adheres to Quality Policy to ensure our products and services meet customer's expectations.
  • Leads product launch initiatives Adheres to the processes and requirements of PEP and APQP.
  • Identifies equipment/product/process needs and develops programs for improvement affecting safety, quality, yield and productivity.
  • Leads improvement and preparation efforts with regards to IATF and ISO9001 quality system audits.
  • Drives activities in risk analysis and development of risk mitigation strategies.
  • Drives teamwide efforts to understand, quantify and improve precision and accuracy of production equipment and testing, measurement, and analytical equipment and facilities.
  • Performs quality engineering reviews of design documentation (design review) for compliance to customer specific and industry standard requirements.
  • Applies statistical process control (SPC) methods for analyzing data to evaluate the current process and process changes.
  • Leads department initiatives to quantify, document and drive improvements of process capability throughout the plant as aligned with BILSTEIN standards and customer requirements.
  • Conducts quality audits as prescribed by the local quality registration (ISO or Customer Requirements).
  • Participates in the analysis and disposition of non-conforming product as required.
  • Interfaces with customers to resolve quality issues and facilitate quality planning (APQP) and development of work instructions for customer-specific requirements.
  • Strategizes within the various Production Units to provide quality support for day-to-day plant operations (root cause analysis, material disposition, corrective action, problem solving)
  • Provides leadership and support to employees on quality concerns, customer complaints and application of quality methodologies.
  • Ensures compliance and safety of all activities within the organization standards and policies.

Your profile

Education, Experience and Qualifications Required:

  • A bachelor's degree in engineering, quality or related field and ASQ Certification in Quality Engineering (CQE).
  • Substantial work experience as a Quality Engineer in automotive manufacturing. Demonstrated experience and proficiency in the use of total quality management, statistical methods, quality tools, root cause analysis / resolution, risk analysis, SPC, MSA, and design of experiments.
  • Recognized within the organization as a technical expert in all quality related processes and methodologies.
  • Extensive knowledge of and experience properly applying risk analysis and problem failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA) for automotive products.
  • Proven experience identifying process shortcomings through data analysis and providing recommendations for improvement.
  • Experience in designing and implementing corrective action in response to process escapes.
  • Proven experience in problem solving, design process auditing, and 5-why analysis.
  • Possesses substantial knowledge of ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 (ISO/TS 16949) quality management system and quality control techniques.
  • Proven expertise with APQP/PPAP disciplines.
  • Superior knowledge of statistical software such as Minitab, Infinity or equivalent systems, along with MS Office suite.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills. Writes quality assurance reports that describe manufacturing problems, corrective actions taken and preventative measures needed.
  • Proven record of customer interface and ability to manage multiple projects and programs in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven time management, organizational, problem solving and prioritization skills to successfully complete responsibilities in a timely manner.
  • Exhibits integrity through fair and ethical behaviors in all activities; maintains accountability for performance.
  • Strong attention to detail with well-developed organization skills.
  • Proven experience developing work processes to improve outcomes for the team/customers.
  • Experience with the use of statistical analysis software and computer-assisted design, manufacturing and machining.
  • Collaboration of the development, implementation and maintenance of control plans, product specific specifications, work instructions and supportive certifications and test documents (i.e. operator instructions and operator forms).
