Assistant Safety Director

Assistant Safety Director opportunity with a commercial construction contractor in Chicago, IL!

Position Summary:

Responsible for assisting the Corporate Safety Director with the oversight and implementation of the company’s nationwide safety and health program to assist in driving a strong safety culture and maintaining compliance with local, state, national regulations. The individual will assist with the oversight of company’s corporate safety training programs, maintain safety databases and records, investigate job-related injuries and illnesses, and establish employee safety protocols.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Attend all job pre-construction Safety plans to aid in engineering out hazards associated with each project
  • Assemble & distribute job emergency packages along with OSHA Posters
  • Track & complete for distribution 300 logs
  • Perform Jobsite Safety Audits, Accident & Near miss investigations
  • Develop Weekly Safety Toolbox Talks with video & Lessons Learned
  • Continually upgrade jobsite clinic information
  • Attend annual ACIG workshops out of town
  • Attend ACIG semi – annual peer group best practice sessions
  • Attend all ACIG claims review & Project Life Saver meetings annually
  • Accommodate ACIG Safety consultants on Company’s projects semi – annually
  • Develop and implement safety plans
  • Involved in meeting pertaining to jobsite injury or property damage
  • Responsible for Disciplinary actions if warranted
  • Establish current & archived databases (on J drive) for all jobsite safety data, accidents, drug screens, PFT’s, Near misses, SIF’s
  • Develop and conduct training programs for existing and new policies and procedures
  • Available 24/7 to respond to all Company related incidents, accidents, liabilities
  • Attend jobsite Safety Huddles with crews prior to mobilizing
  • Attend subcontractors Steel Erection, precast erection & excavation meetings prior to mobilizations on Company projects.
  • Monitor projects in Columbus, Wisconsin, Ohio with monthly site visits.
  • Respond and reply to all OSHA related citations

Job Requirements:

  • 3-5 years safety experience in the construction industry.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health & Safety or related field of study required.
  • CHST certification desired.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA and applicable federal, state, local and company safety regulations.
  • High degree of professional ethics, integrity, and professionalism.
  • Sound judgement and ability to analyze situations and information.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
  • Local to Chicago, IL area or willing to permanently relocate

Physical Demands – Work is performed both in office and field settings. Employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, climb, bend, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, and hear. Employee may lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Employee will also engage in indoor and outdoor safety training that requires physical dexterity, balance, and fitness. Clear vision and depth perception are also necessary.

In addition to physical requirements, employee must be sharp, focused, and alert when conducting his or her job duties and participating in employee safety trainings. This includes possessing the mental aptitude, cognition, concentration, and state of mind necessary to perform his or her job duties, with negligible distractions that could jeopardize employee’s work productivity, quality of work, and safety to self and others.

Travel Requirements - This position requires up to 25% travel (local, national).

Pay: $80,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
