Primary Function/General Purpose of Position
The VP & President of RSF Foundation will provide overall strategic direction and operational leadership for philanthropy across RSFH. This leader will have oversight for all fundraising efforts across RSFH including identifying prospects, leading all aspects of development, major gifts, grateful patient giving, planned giving and events and implementing best practice fundraising systems and processes that improve the operation for fundraising for RSFH.
This role serves as the leader for all fundraising activities associated with RSFH and serves as the liaison with the administrative team and the Foundation Board of Directors. This leader provides oversight and supervision of the Foundation staff and any volunteer activities associated with fund development. Ensures robust prospect research, fund development, donor stewardship, assessment of fundraising results, industry best practices and donor wishes.
The VP & President of RSF Foundation works actively with the Foundation Board of Directors, providing strategic direction, organization, communication while also leveraging the Board members’ valuable time. Working closely with the Foundation Board of Directors and coordinating with the health system leadership team, this position is responsible for the development and implementation of strategies to strengthen and grow fundraising in support of RSFH’s capital needs, program growth and reserves.
Essential Job Functions
- Design, strategize and implement an ongoing program to encourage major and planned giving benefiting RSFH.
- Support the RSFH Foundation Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer in the identification, research, cultivation and solicitation of prospective major and grateful gift donors beyond the current network.
- Design and lead fundraising initiatives and/or capital campaigns benefiting RSFH.
- Elevate the grateful patient program through education and outreach to caregivers and physicians.
- Continue to identify areas for board education and growth, including leveraging the system resources of Bon Secours Mercy Health as appropriate.
- Support the RSFH Foundation Board of Directors in the design and implementation of policies and procedures for gift recording, gift reporting, donor acknowledgement and donor recognition.
- Enhance brand awareness of Roper, working closely with the marketing team.
- Foster a culture of philanthropy within the organization at all levels.
- Establish a regular presence and be involved in the Charleston community and region. Regularly participate among civic organizations and groups at a level that enhances the RSFH local presence and community-based objectives.
- Participation as a member of the senior management team of RSFH and serve as a resource to the system as needed.
- Maintain RSFH’s not-for-profit IRS section 501 (c) (3) status and RSFH’s public charity IRS section 509(a) status by providing current information to the RSFH Board of Directors about governmental requirements relating to fundraising, asset management by public charities, and approved donor gift valuations.
- Lead a high-performance team, providing candid and caring feedback through frequent interaction and regular performance evaluations, enabling ongoing professional development.
- Performs other job duties and responsibilities as required.
Job Requirements
- Licensing/Certification: Advanced fundraising certification such as an Association of Healthcare Philanthropy Fellowship (AHP Fellow), Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) or other advanced fundraising credentials preferred.
- Education: Bachelor's degree is required; an advanced degree in philanthropic studies, business, healthcare or a related field preferred.
- Work Experience: At least 10 years of senior level fund development experience required.
Skills
- Thorough knowledge of fund development, including major gifts, planned giving, annual giving and fundraising events.
- Strong strategic skills with the ability to develop, articulate and communicate a strategic vision to the executive team, Board of Directors, Foundation staff, other stakeholders and the community.
- Personal track record of fundraising success with the proven ability to develop a portfolio of major donors and the ability to secure major gifts.
- Contemporary fundraising skills to work with current donors and identify new philanthropy prospects with no previous connection to RSFH.
- Administrative and organizational skills necessary to manage a fundraising foundation staff that works cooperatively and collaboratively in support of an integrated healthcare delivery system.
- Strong management skills with the ability to assess, recruit, organize and motivate talent. Able to effectively utilize performance management metrics and inspire staff to high levels of performance and accountability.
- Evidence of effective board development and engagement of highly qualified board members.
- Proven skills in the development and management of an operating budget with an understanding of foundation accounting systems. Knowledge of the best practices in fundraising and the legal and regulatory requirements for responsible fundraising.
- Ability to form networks and connections to philanthropic and community organizations in the region. Willing to commit to the community and become an involved and visible community leader.
