Job Description Summary
The Certified SPD Supervisor reports to the Manager, Sterile Processing. Under general supervision of the department manager, the Certified SPD supervisor coordinates and manages the daily activities and operational needs of the department. This position assists the Manager with the overall direction, leadership, and supervision of the staff. This role performs instrument production, case assembly, sterile processing, decontamination of surgical instruments in compliance with medical center policies and procedures, state, local and federal requirements. This position serves as SPD liaison with other departments. The Certified SPD Supervisor monitors and participates in quality initiatives and assists with accomplishing organizational and department goals/objectives. Supervisors may have supervisory responsibilities at Main, Rutledge Tower, and/or ART Sterile Processing Departments.
Minimum Training and Education: Graduate of high school or GED equivalency examination and must be certified and maintain a certification in sterile processing and as an instrument specialist from IAHCSMM (International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management) and have at least 2 years' experience in sterile processing. Certification in SPD leadership or management from IAHCSMM (International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management) certification, if not held, must be obtained within 6 months. Possess ability to understand and implement a variety of detailed instructions in the execution of processes. Applicant must communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Basic computer skills required. Ability to work in a fast-paced, high pressure health care environment. Leadership, supervisory or management experience preferred.
