Job Description
This position acts as the representative of the Minnesota Veterans Home - Minneapolis in conjunction with the financial review of the asset and income level of residents for the purpose of determining the appropriate and proper fees to be charged for his/her monthly nursing or domiciliary care maintenance charge. This involves conducting both requested and annual financial reviews. The incumbent is involved with the administration of benefits programs for residents of MVH to include application for all appropriate potential sources of income. Other facets of this position include the research and verification of resident financial statements, the production of monthly internal and external reports for the Home and federal Veterans Administration.
Responsibilities include:
- To brief and interview new residents and/or their authorized representative for the purpose of informing them of the MDVA Rules regarding resident payments and finances and answer questions.
- Review and analyze all financial data presented by resident or authorized representative to determine initial maintenance rate, revised monthly maintenance rate, or adjustment to be assessed for the resident's cost of care.
- Conduct annual review of all resident accounts ensuring all data is complete, current and accurately reflects resident's current financial profile.
- Apply for and maintain federal Veterans Administration pensions, benefits and other stipends for residents that qualify for such benefits.
- Upon admission, assist residents to enroll in Medicare/Medicaid benefits available to them.
- Prepare, audit, and maintain the financial record file of each resident of the Minnesota Veterans Home - Minneapolis, continually updating required information.

Math skills sufficient to add, subtract, multiply, divide and calculate percentages in order to accurately compute resident data.
Accounting skills sufficient to independently review financial documents, reconcile data, and balance accounts.
Customer service/human relations skills sufficient to provide prompt, courteous and accurate information to internal and external customers over the phone and in person, and to deal tactfully and persuasively with people to put them at ease to obtain personal financial information.
English language (speaking, reading and writing) sufficient to read, understand, apply and explain procedures orally and in writing to internal and external customers and to effectively carry out complex oral and written instructions.
Decision making skills sufficient to make accurate and sound determinations when calculating resident monthly maintenance charges and adjustments.
Problem solving and analytical skills sufficient to identify and resolve discrepancies in resident accounts.
Spreadsheet skills sufficient to develop and modify basic spreadsheets, as well as sort and extract data, locate, update, and retrieve information in databases.
Skill in word processing software sufficient to prepare letters and other various correspondences.
