Job Summary:

We are seeking a strategic and results-driven Director of Business Development to lead our efforts in expanding our drug delivery services. The Director, Business Development – Drug Delivery Services, North America, will lead market development for new strategic growth offerings involving innovative technology and/or service models, such as Drug Packaging and Combination Product Solutions. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in pharmaceuticals and medical devices, with a deep understanding of drug delivery technologies and solutions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Establish a viable business development strategy to target and qualify new customer opportunities in North America region for Drug Packaging and Combination Product Solutions.
  2. Identify and pursue new business opportunities, including partnerships and collaborations.
  3. Lead negotiations and contract development with clients and partners.
  4. Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders in pharmaceutical companies, biotech firms, and related institutions.
  5. Actively progress the pipeline of opportunities to ensure individual and relevant OU financial objectives (revenue, margin) are fully met.
  6. Work collaboratively with Contract Manufacturing OU stakeholders including CM Sales, Business Operations, and other functional teams to progress customer opportunities seamlessly through project scoping, quotation, and award process.
  7. Understand and communicate emerging needs/trends for Product Development, Drug/Device Assembly, Drug Packaging, Drug Handling, Release Testing, and other drug delivery support services.
  8. Provide insight on industry, customer and competitor trends that impact current/forward looking OU business strategy and roadmap.
  9. Proactively identify, define, and propose solutions for problems that may impact overall implementation and success of the CM OU business strategy.
  10. Provide direction to Strategic Marketing team for internal and customer facing program messaging and content.
  11. Support communications and promotional plans to optimize the presence of West in the market, and with our customers.
  12. Represent West at industry events as needed.
  13. Collaborate with the Sales, Account Management teams across West to ensure that Drug Packaging, Drug/Device Assembly, Combination Product Solutions, and other drug delivery support services are presented as an integral part of our overall West offering to customers.
  14. Performs other duties as assigned based on business needs.

Basic Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's in relevant technical engineering or business/marketing discipline, MBA preferred.

Proven industry track record in Sales and/or Marketing. 15+ years hands-on industry experience in developing new business opportunities in the Drug Delivery and Combination Product space.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  1. Strong background with a good technical understanding and knowledge of combination products, medical device qualification, primary packaging, regulatory requirements, and program management.
  2. Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
  3. Able to operate with significant autonomy; must be a self-starter, and an independent decision maker.
  4. Ability to prioritize and deliver high quality, accurate work within the required timeline.
  5. Interpersonal and influencing skills to foster collaboration and success in a matrix, global environment.
  6. Excellent customer and partner relationship management skills.

Travel Requirements:

Must be able to travel up to 40% of the time, including internationally.

Physical & Mental Requirements:

Sedentary - exerting up to 10lbs/4kgs of force occasionally, and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.

Must be able to communicate effectively, speak in front of groups, express & exchange ideas and understand direction.
