PRIMARY JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

2. Patient Care

Provides care that is consistent with the principles of Relationship Based Care

Prepares room, x-ray equipment and completes procedural setup as needed for invasive cardiac, cardiac implant/explant, vascular, peripheral vascular, interventional radiologic and trauma based procedures.

Under RN leadership, assists with procedural preparation of patients

Instructs patients regarding x-ray procedures in a manner specific to the developmental age and special needs/behaviors of the patient.

Assists with the transfer of patients when possible.

Assist the cardiologist, interventional radiologist, vascular surgeon or other physicians in the performance of minimally invasive and invasive fluoroscopic guided diagnostic and therapeutic procedures

Positions patients for fluoro and cine imaging during invasive cardiac, cardiac implants/explants, vascular, peripheral vascular and non-vascular, interventional radiologic and trauma based procedures in order to obtain optimal results. Under supervision of the physician, adjusts x-ray tubes for properly angled views.

Observes patient during procedure, reporting unusual occurrences to RN assessing patient.

Responsible for preparation of pressure injector and performing of DSA.

Is familiar with and able to respond to all aspects and situations pertaining to codes

and emergency situations occurring in the Cath Lab.

Performs and calculates ejection fractions.

As assigned, proficient in assisting the physician as a Scrub Technician in invasive cardiac, cardiac implant/explant, vascular, peripheral, non-vascular, interventional radiology and trauma based procedures.

Proficient in connecting the patient to all types of monitoring equipment for the procedure

Utilizes effective communication skills to facilitate safe patient hand offs.

Documents per hospital & departmental standards/policy. Utilizes manual and automated information systems to improve efficiency and effect productivity.

Proficient in the set up and use of atherectomy systems and thrombus extraction devices.

Proficient in use of advanced technologies (i.e. laser)

3. General Standards

Promotes a safe environment for staff, patients, physicians and reports unsafe conditions to appropriate personnel.

Maintains clean environment and is responsible for upkeep of x-ray equipment, Medrad injector, PCACS and IVUS/FFR.

Maintains equipment properly and demonstrates a current working knowledge and safe use of equipment, and instrumentation

Reports any unusual occurrences with equipment immediately to the RN and physician.

Proficient in Siemens, McKesson, MedRad, PCACS and IVUS.

Archives all computer images to computer hard drive, and copies data to a CD. Maintains film and CD archive.

Conducts and documents required quality control procedures to maintain proper image quality.

Conducts and documents required annual examination of lead aprons. Reports discrepancies to director or clinical coordinator(s).

Responsible to record all equipment problems in logbook and initiate services calls for all imaging equipment Medrad injector, PCACS and IVUS/FFR. Reports calls and resulting service to Clinical Coordinator(s) or designate. Keeps all other staff on duty abreast of problems with the equipment.

Responsible for radiation safety. Responsible for JCAHO, ALARA and Title 22 Standards and department radiation safety policies. Reports deviations to the Clinical Coordinator(s).

4. Leadership

Serves as a role model and preceptor to students, orientees, and unregistered technologists.

Acts as a clinical resource to staff, physicians, and families

Collaborates with other members or the health care team. Assists in open, direct communication with other health care providers

Remains flexible in staffing requests and during staffing shortages

Participates as requested by the Supervisor/Director in interviewing prospective employees

Escalates barriers to following policies/procedures/protocols, providing patient care, documenting/use of the EHR (Cerner/Phillips/McKesson) to Clinical Coordinator/Director.

Aids in developing solutions to issues.

Actively participates in unit huddles, unit meetings, shared governance activities/discussions and contributes to solid teamwork on the unit

Utilizes time management skills to accomplish established tasks

5. Performance Improvement

Unit and Organizational goals are met or exceeded

Accountable to understand unit, organization, and national metrics (, core measures, national patient safety goals) and contributes in their day to day work to meeting those metrics

Initially receives physician, employee, and patient complaints and provides information to Supervisor or Director. Assists in resolution of complaint with the goal of immediate resolution if possible
