The N.C. Office of the Commissioner of Banks (NCCOB) is responsible for the chartering and regulation of North Carolina's state banks, trust companies, mortgage companies, as well as registration and licensing of various financial institutions operating in North Carolina.

This posting is for two contributing-level examiners.
NCCOB is seeking contributing-level (entry level) financial examiners to join the Mortgage Division. These entry-level positions require training that will include licensing and examination processes.
This position will be aligned primarily to mortgage origination with the purpose to gather, organize, review, and analyze information concerning the operations of mortgage lenders and brokers and to ensure the safe and lawful conduct of the business and compliance with applicable lending laws and regulations. Examiners will communicate information to management and others, consistent with NCCOB regulations, laws, policies, and industry practices. Examiners develop and maintain professional working relationships, prepare accurate and timely written reports, demonstrates effective verbal communication skills, and recommends corrective actions. Examiners may testify in judicial hearings and are required to maintain confidentiality and discretion while conducting business. Examiners may work in a team environment or independently and must adapt to changing circumstances. Examiners will work under general supervision, demonstrate sound judgment in making decisions and recommendations, and present findings.
WORK ENVIRONMENT INVOLVES MINIMAL OVERNIGHT TRAVEL Examiners may reside anywhere in the state of North Carolina. Examiners work a compressed work schedule, with every Friday off.
Recruitment range: $43,929 (min) - $65,000 (max)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies
  • Working knowledge of mortgage origination processes, industry standards, and best practices.
  • Mortgage industry knowledge of investor standards, quality control, and compliance processes.
  • Demonstrate the ability to learn laws, rules, regulations, industry standards, and accounting processes applicable to mortgage origination.
  • Ability to apply newly acquired competencies from attending required training.
  • Candidate must have knowledge and ability to use applicable information technology to meet work needs, including proficient knowledge in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Performance abilities include but are not limited to the following: objectivity, time management, integrity, clarity (report writing and oral presentations), attention to detail, teamwork, professional presentation, initiative, adaptability, and organizational sensitivity.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required to be successful.
Experience in writing reports is recommended.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in a related field (mortgage, banking, finance, business) AND at least one year of recent experience in one or more of the following mortgage areas: mortgage lending administration, regulatory compliance, underwriting, or processing; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
