Job Description-School Social Worker
The School Social Worker effectively manages clinical services for the children and families on their caseload. They provide individual and group therapy and, where appropriate, family work using a range of therapeutic models and techniques. They develop comprehensive IEP treatment goals for children and families and monitor progress related to the treatment goals. They may be required to complete a thorough history and assessment of the child and family and administer other assessments as needed. They provide clinical services that are informed by knowledge in the field, best practices, and evolving and innovative treatment approaches. The School Social Worker maintains accurate and timely clinical documentation using agency protocol.
The School Social Worker facilitates social emotional group therapy according to IEP mandates. They are responsible for providing clinical practices that are highly effective and participating in the ongoing acquisition of knowledge. The School Social Worker participates actively in clinical supervision and clinical meetings and seeks and accepts help and direction when needed. They demonstrate self-awareness, responsibility, initiative and professionalism. They actively participate in team discussions and demonstrate follow through on team goals and plans. They are flexible and accommodating in unplanned or crisis situations.
The School Social Worker effectively leads the child's mental health treatment during their enrollment in school. They collaborate closely with all members of the multi-disciplinary team on campus and in the community, if applicable. They lead team meetings such as treatment planning meetings, red flag reviews and other community wide approaches to the child's treatment. They serve as a resource for team members on clinical issues pertinent to the child. They are responsible for successfully representing the agency at ongoing meetings, including CSE reviews, treatment planning meetings and other stakeholder-related meeting.
Essential Duties of School Social Worker
Key duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Effectively manages clinical services for the children and families on caseload.
  • Provide IEP mandated individual and group counseling services and coordinate with school partners to ensure the implementation of the student's IEP
  • Work effectively with team to ensure excellent service delivery
  • Counseling family members to encourage healthy functioning in the home, including support with effective communication, approaches to conflict resolution and behavior management techniques
  • Represent Andrus in CSE meetings. Participate in team meetings such as Clinical Meetings, Child Study Meetings, Program Reviews, Red Flag reviews and other community-wide approaches to child's treatment, and serve as resource for team members
  • Manage all clinical documentation for cases effectively and professionally. Writes clear, accurate and thorough case notes, reports, and other clinical documentation
  • Demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional development through the study and practice of new skills and knowledge in the field
  • Understands and models agency and department's commitments, mission, vision and treatment philosophy

Essential Qualifications of School Social Worker
Key qualifications include:
  • Master's Degree in Social Work from Accredited Graduate School of Social Work
  • LMSW or higher
  • At least one-year post-Master's experience preferred with children or other significant experience in treatment for children.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong skills in a variety of software applications.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
